Forgive me if this question has already been answered.  I have searched the forums but cannot find a thread which specifically addresses a situation where someone has lost their passport and their  90 day reporting slip, and needs to complete the 90 days before receipt of replacement passport.  I have found many threads dealing with each part of this situation but not the combination of both.  If such a thread exists can someone please point me to it?

To summarise, I have an elderly friend (84 years old), living in Chiang Mai, who has either lost or had his passport stolen.

  1. His passport contains his Thai retirement visa and 90 day report slip
  2. He has already obtained a Police Report
  3. He is in the process of applying for a replacement passport
  4. The new passport, however, will not be issued in time to complete his next 90 day report even allowing for the grace period of 7 days
  5. I tried phoning immigration but the staff did not know the answer and gave me a different phone number. This alternative number seems to be constantly busy.
  6. I will take my friend to Chiang Mai Immigration at Promenada later this week if no-one can provide an answer as to what procedure to follow to avoid falling foul of immigration regulations regarding 90 day reporting.  Is there a form he should complete?  If so, is this available online for printing?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can shed some light on this!

Not sure what immigration would do but the best option is to go to immigration with a completed TM47 report form, the police report (plus a copy) and try to do the 90 day report. Having copies of the lost passport would help a well.

If they will not do it then a 2000 baht fine may charged for a late report after the new passport arrives.

Edit: Another option would be to try and do the report online if within the 15 to 7 days before the report date window.

I was told today that the seven days grace period after the 90 day report is due has been cancelled in Pattaya/Jomtien.

Can anyone confirm this?

Sounds like a baseless rumor.

The cannot do away with the grace period to do the report since it is allowed in the immigration act. The seven days is in a immigration regulation.

Does he have photocopies of visa ?

I think above correct in that the worst will be a 2,000 Bht fine for late reporting.

After checking their records they should restamp his new PP.

Keep the police report safe

Should not be too much of a problem if you have photocopied, beforehand, all relevant pages from your "lost" passport. An 'emergency" passport issued from your embassy?

Can the  90-day report be done online anywhere now? As far as I 'm concerned it is Koh Samui,  Surat Thani.

It has always been possible to submit an application online from anywhere in the country. Once accepted it is sent to the local office for approval. Most offices now process the reports as far as I know. There may still be some rogue offices that do not process them.

Good evening,
The possibility of 7 days after the deadline is still valid, at least in Hua Hin.
For me the deadline was 21 July, I could not go there on Friday 20. And this morning, the 23, no worries.

I can't comment on the 90 day side but can on the lost Pport.

Unless things have changed he will have to obtain a new visa and start the processes again. It is not the same as transferring from an old passport to a new one.

I lost my passport and even going to Imm at Bangkok I was only granted the amount of time remaining on my current entry.  They put a few stamps in my new passport and I then had to leave the country and get a new visa when y time was up. They would not honour the old visa. He will probably have to go to Imm in CM with his police report and new PPort in order to get the required stamps to leave the country.

As I say this may have changed since I lost my Passport - it was around 2007. If I can find the old new passport I will see if there is anything in it. It was printed with a comment on the notes page that it replaced my previous passport which was lost.

Thank you for your answer, I will ask Koh Samui forum probably the best place to have an answer from experience.

If you had a valid visa from an embassy or consulate it was lost with your passport. Visas cannot be transferred or reinstated by immigration.

If on an extension of stay issued by immigration it can be reinstated in the new passport.

As I stated he may have to obtain a new visa- it was pretty clear from my post that I had not said otherwise. having gone through the process I am perfectly aware that a visa cannot be transferred- one would have thought that my post made that pretty clear. 'They would not honour the old visa.'

The guy is on a (probable) non-Imm 'O' if he had a retirement permit- how can he get a new retirement permit without a valid visa?

I know that this thread is a few months old, but I thought that I'd share my experience for future reference. I was in a similar scenario (non-b with multiple yearly extensions). When my 90 days report was due, I wasn't able to find my passport anymore. I filed a police report at the local police station and contacted my embassy for a new passport. While waiting for my new passport, I went to immigration for my 90 days report carrying copies of my passport pages, arrival card and police report. The immigration officer asked me to sign off the copies and handed me a new 90 days report slip.

Once I have my new passport, I will go back to immigration to have the stamps transferred.
