I knew Thaksin was bad . I recognized that the fact that he was voted in and that he had to cater to an electoral base meant that democracy could at least improve things. A lesser evil. NOt the magic mantra of "reform" and "absolute democracy" that Suthep's supporters like yourself swallowed

No one group is innocent, these groups would not be able to even operate in any western countries, unfortunately in Thailand it is accepted that if you run the country you can get away with murder. These groups are wherever the money is, none are there for the people, only themselves If indeed, it doesn't matter as you say, then perhaps the decision should be left to the electorate. They should be able to decide what matters to them.

However I am sure you know why there has been no trial against Thaksin about it..... There are two alternatives. 1.He genuinely doesn't know being just another naive and gullible foreigner out of his depth in a complex Thai world 2.He does know but skates over the facts and implications because they don't fit his preferred narrative. Do remember the people came out protesting against the corruption of the YL government before any political parties encouraged them at all. They came because they could no longer stand the lies and corruption and later people like Suthep joined helping to bring down YL. But I did not see the likes of Abisith and others there. Not sure if Suthep had already separated from the Democrats at that point the guy has left politics so many times its hard to keep track. As for what the people in the north believe, just because they believe it does not make it the truth. People believed the earth was flat too. So what evidence do you have to support your opinion ? Geez mate, you really take the cake when it comes to fanboy nonsense. The PDRC leadership consisted of: Suthep Thaugsuban, Secretary-general of PDRC; former Democrat Party MP from Surat Thani, former deputy prime minister (2008–2011) Luang Pu Buddha Issara, then abbot of Wat Or Noi temple, Nakhon Pathom province Sathit Wongnongtoey, former Democrat Party MP for Trang, former minister to the office of the Prime Minister (2008–11) Thaworn Senniam, former Democrat Party MP for Songkhla, former deputy interior minister Witthaya Kaewparadai, former deputy chairman of the Democrat Party, former minister of public health (2008–09) Issara Somchai, former Democrat Party MP for Ubon Ratchathani, former minister of social development and human security Akanat Promphan, former Democrat Party MP for Bangkok Nataphol Teepsuwan, former Democrat Party MP for Bangkok Puttipong Punnakanta, former Democrat Party MP for Bangkok, former deputy governor of Bangkok Chumpol Julasai, former Democrat Party MP for Chumphon The people came out to protest about amnesty, not about corruption - trust a fanboy to rewrite history to suit his nonsense beliefs. As for what people believe....... can you believe some idiots thought the coup was a good thing, can you believe some idiots thought the coup would end corruption, can you believe some idiots thought the coup would pave the way for "real democracy" in Thailand................sheeesh! 4

Just watch the last 20-or-so military coups, where always the military protects the elites and gives a shit about the masses. There you have your evidence. And it doesn't matter who was wearing a yellow shirt at what time, those are stupid details. No point asking Rob really as he has a soft spot for the junta and was a top cheerleader until even he could not ignore what was obvious all along, seems to be backsliding a bit.... 2
Sir Dude
These two parties have much more to worry about than each other and should be turning their flak on the present "government", as that's what opposition parties are supposed to do..
jimmynewbie
Why do you think nothing was done about the drugs crackdown? Even the yellow shirts avoid the subject, who do you think really ordered it? The clue is in the silence from all!

Unfortunately those claiming to represent democracy aren't really interested in it. Only as long as it serves their purpose. Even admitting democracy isn't the goal. In Asia if politicians get control of the military then you get corrupt family dynasties. Hun Sen being a good current example. The Lee family still run Singapore and the Marcos family still influential in Philippines. If they don't you get a coup to kick them out. Politicians like countries that insist on putting 'democratic" in their name rarely are.

"... For drug dealers if they do not want to die, they had better quit staying on that road... drugs suppression in my time as Interior Minister will follow the approach of [former Prime Minister] Thaksin. If that will lead to 3,000-4,000 deaths of those who break the law, then so be it. That has to be done ... For those of you from the opposition party, I will say you care more about human rights than drug problems in Thailand." Don't be a complete numpty all your life, try to keep an open mind. Obviously HRW isn't a credible source for you, perhaps you can find something from the Sun. Do you usually quote Chalerm with approval as a source of truth? Would it not be possible that he's just piggybacking on the war on drugs reputation to project the macho tough guy image?

It's a tired mantra, Baerboxer and one which is a counsel of despair. India, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, indonesia showing good signs, all of them Asian; Eastern Europe reverting to authoritarianism. Democracy is not a genetic possession of white people. It's always imperfect and always needs work. You approved the coup. You have an infantile desire for instant gratification, for instant perfection

As for moving on, information is important, I know that isn't a popular view in the age of don't believe what you see, don't believe what you hear. As for Thaksin being not guilty, by his own admission he is. Information is important but it is also hazardous as you say.
