Prayut assigns Interior Minister to rescue abandoned dog

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha

A dog abandoned on a Bangkok road island was rescued and sent to Rayong after it was spotted by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on his way to Government House on Tuesday.

Interior Minister General Anupong Paochinda confirmed Wednesday that officials had located and rescued the dog and had it taken to the Rayong Dog Lovers Club to be placed in a foster home.

While on his way to attend the weekly Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, Prayut was apparently touched by a dog lying on the road island and took a clip of it with his smartphone.

He mentioned the animal during the Cabinet meeting and forwarded his clip to Anupong. A source from the Cabinet meeting said Prayut was overwhelmed by his pity for the dog, leading him to repeatedly broach the topic during the meeting.

“I’ve seen it lying there for several days,” the PM General reportedly said before forwarding his clip to Anupong via the Line app. “I felt sorry for it. It’s black and white and pretty. We should raise it. Please help take care of it.”

Anupong on Wednesday said he dispatched officials to rescue the dog after receiving the clip. Prayut complained that the dog’s owner was mean to abandon it on the road island, he added.

Neither the PM, nor the Interior Minister specified exactly where the dog was found, leaving some to wonder if the rescued animal was the same one as Prayut had seen.

As of press time, members of the Rayong Dog Lovers Club had posted to their Facebook page that they were checking to see who had adopted the dog.

There was a newspaper lying next to it. He stopped himself reading the articles less than flattering about him. This was despite the fact the newspaper was black and white, and read all over.

Wonder if anyone instructed to rescue it, misinterpretated 'the traffic island bit' and grabbed Musk's mini-sub?.

Anyway, good news for the dog.

Seems it's better to be a dog than a human in Thailand.

Yeah, they found a suitable face mask for it.

The PR machine is revving up. Election must be around the corner. What's next? Prayut climbs up the side of a building to rescue cat stranded on a ledge?

Too true. Kick a dog that's growling at you and you'll face a stiff fine for assault, but if the same mutt bites you (without provocation I add), the most it faces is a free rabies shot and an hour 's detention for attitude adjustment.

The toad whisperer returns.

What about the kids and elderly in the slums of Bangkok? I just don't get him or others that think animals deserve a higher priority than humans. It's like they're all on acid watching reruns of Rin Tin Tin

Dogs are voting at next election maybe.... ?

No. but all the dog lovers are!

He is a good looking dog.  Smart too, he knows where to stay to avoid being bothered.   Had the grumpy general showed the same sort of kindness to due process and participatory government in 2014, Thailand would be a better place.  At least, it is a better place for one stray dog.

Junta PR machinery working over drive to milk this mundane act of animal kindness. He is still the big D...and a fake PM that stole democracy and jailed people from speaking out.

You wonder about his state of mental health.

He cares far more about  dogs than he does about people.

Saving Thailand, one soi dog at a time.

Lots of propaganda floating around these days: just last week I was listening to a speech about some important dude - apparently he had resolved the divisions in the south ?

Goes to show how much he looks out the window when he travels, I see dogs on the road every minute that need saveing

Good to know he has his priorities in line. Huh?

Clearly a very focused man.

How about mandating the Hon. Interior Minister to crackdown on the Bangkok taxi cheats,  refusing the meter ?

That is exactly what it is. Friend of the fatherless! Protector of the weak! Iron-willed brilliant commander! Guiding light of the nation!

At least the USSR and Warsaw Pact countries could add free health, a job and a roof over your head as a sweetener. What is he offering by way of compensation for his one party state?

Very compassionate and decent of him.

Too bad can't say the same about some of these TV posters.
