I would appreciate some help. I have not searched TV as I

normally do as I am having a rubbish day - so if you

could help solve my problem I would appreciate it.

I went down to Jomtien today to renew my annual visa

extension based on marriage.

I have done this for 14 years now. So I am used to hassle.

I have not been asked before to provide a witness, but there

is a new top officer in charge of desk 6 it seems and she

is very keen to get it all correct.

So I have been sent away to get a photo of me and my wife and

a witness. I have read about this being a requirement for some

years now.

I have not understood exactly what is required.

1. I don't know any Thai neighbours.

2. I do know the security guys though and one of them lives

in the neighbouring village. So we are Park Hill 4 and I think

he lives in Park Hill 3.

3. So could I use the security guy?

4. This picture she wants and the witness information, do I

just take a picture of the 3 of us outside the house and then

stick that on a piece of A4 and he writes his ID number on -

job done?

I expect it is more involved than that.

Thanks for your help

Not sure how pendant Jomtien is about the witness now. At one time they wanted one with house book registry for the district where you are living.

You do not have to know the person. I am sure your wife may know somebody to do it.

Thanks very much for the reply Ubonjoe.

She said she wanted a picture with me and my wife and the

witness in it in front of the house.

She said the witness had to provide their ID number.

That is all.

I speak Thai and normally would have asked a few more questions, but I was just so fed up to be honest - I just shook my head and walked out before I said something I regretted.

I am usually so laid back with all this, but today I was just not in the mood for it.

I figured I would ask on Thai Visa as you normally have the answers to all this visa minefield.

I am pretty sure when I read about this witness thing a year or so ago - it was quite involved and did not just involve a picture and a Thai ID number.

I will try and find some threads on it now I have cheered up a bit...

Thanks again

Why not ask your neighbour. ? Get a picture taken outside of her house also buy them a bottle of Hong Tong and all will be good in your world again.

I had it 3 years ago and asked the Bank Manager who knows us since over 10 years to play that role.

We made a Pic in front of Kungsri Bank and he was even so kind and wrote a statement that we are frequent customers here incl his tel nr for further requests.

Worked like a clockwork

A friend of your wife or neighbour will suffice.

On one A4 sheet 2 x postcard size photos outside your house showing the number, and one directly outside the front door.

Another A4 sheet with a copy of the friend/neighbours Tabien Baan and ID card signed by the friend/neighbour.

That was my first attempt and got denied.

I was asked for a pic from us and the Landlord of the house (who is living in Udon)

By the visit at the bank I mentioned this case and the Manager jumped in..

Berybert, See Will, Tanoshi thanks very much for the replies.

Berybert - the IO said she wanted a picture outside my house

in front of the number and the Thai person to be in the picture and give their ID number. That was it.

Tanoshi - that is what she wants it seems. So it could be the security guard then I guess?? No mention of Tabien Bahn of witness though.

See Will - I don't think that the IO wants this. She wants a picture outside our house showing the number - nowhere else?

I have just read some other threads on this - what a mess it seems to be.

I think I will ask my wife to go down to immigration and get them to explain in detail what they want.

Thanks again for your help.

(I could probably switch to retirement extension - maybe I should - it will mean some extra paperwork and cost, but this is just so much hassle now).

I have just done the extension of stay for living with my Thai wife at Jomtien (again).

I give 2 papers with 2 pictures each:

-me and my  wife: outside (with house no.) and inside

-me and my wife and the witness: outside (with house no.) and inside

A few years ago I asked the lady and she said the witness doesn't need to have an address registered in Pattaya.

The witness can be any Thai and but you need his/her copy of ID card and house registration and has to come with you to the immigration. She wouldn't start to check the application unless the wife and witness are present. As the last step of the application the witness will be interviewed a little but (I think) the most important question is: For how long have you been knowing the married couple (living there)?

Extension based on marriage is a pain in the a.. at Jomtien Imm.

You will have to show up with the witness at Imm also so they can see your witness, its not enough with photo and ID number.

We are gonna shift to Retirement as extension based on marriage is too much of a hassle. Actually after the change to retirement in nov. we will leave Thailand and try a European country when spring comes to Europe

I switched to retirement visa a few years ago, saves a lot of hassle. Not sure now but think the first time the wife had to come with me.

I'm extra lucky as my immigration office is hardly ever busy and I can usually be in and out with annual extension in under half an hour.

I honestly feel for some of you guys that have to arrive at crack of dawn at your office and then have a whole day of hassle, with no guarantee of success.

Why don't you take your wife with you to immigration? I let mine handle the whole process.

Are witnesses ever required when you have children?

After reading so many posters with posts so similar to yours, I just can't help wondering why so many Thaivisa members stick up for Thai immigration, it just seems to be hassle after hassle especially for those on marriage extensions, all this hoop jumping just seems so unnecessary to me.

Which 'hoops' exactly!

Your living in a foreign Country and you think you should be free from any Immigration control.

This post is not even worth answering, besides it would take too long and I don't have the time.

That sums up your attitude and continuous negative posts about Immigration and why you have issues with them.

You would too if you went to do a ninety day report and was wrongly accused of having a twenty five day overstay, and have been frightened to do any ninety day reports in person ever since, and also questioned in a threatening way about your wifes employment, even though you don't even need to have a wife for retirement extensions. I have every reason to have issues with them.

The easiest way would be to go by taxi to immigration have the taxi pick you up and then take a picture.  Pay him a few extra baht for the fare and he can be your witness.

Apologies for not replying to the replies.

I was out of the country for a few days and just did not not want to think about any of this until I got back.

To Tanoshi I would say that you really have no idea of the effort and hassle there is involved in going to immigration EVERY year with all the paperwork to be told there is something else they want you to do. I don't usually moan about immigration, but the hoop jumping gets quite tiring and degrading year after year. In my case I have had this for 14 years.

Anyway, my wife and I have decided we can't face it any more so will switch to a retirement extension.

I can do this for the first time this year as I now get all my pensions so I have a documented  income over the required amount to do the extension.

Until now my income was savings interest and dividends that was too much hassle to prove.

Thanks again for all the replies and I wish all of you having to do the extension based on marriage every year all the best with your future immigration visits.

I've been going to Immigration for several years, 3 different offices, retirement and marriage extensions.

More like, very keen to get you to use an agent.  I got the paperwork-runaround at that desk, increasing in difficulty with each visit, until it involved needing to get a Thai landlord to fly back to Thailand and get them to go to an amphoe to get a "newer copy" of a document (a non-listed document - I had all the required docs).  They seemed especially displeased I didn't get the hint the first time, and just pay an agent.  My wife asked me to never ask her to interact with those <deleted> at that desk again.  I have a Non-O Multi from Laos now.
