A total of 3,301 new cases of dengue fever were reported nationwide during the past week, the Disease Control Department chief said on Friday.

Dr Suwannachai Watanayingcharoenchai said during the infection, the number of people infected with dengue was an average of 10,000 patients a month during the rainy season from June to September.

From January 1 to August 7, there were 41,094 cases of dengue and 48 patients died, the director general said.

He said in May the number of cases was 7,020 but it increased to 13,233 in June and 10,812 in July.

Suwannachai explained that rainwater caused the areas where mosquitoes can breed to increase so the infection rate rose.

Why aren't they releasing the genetically modified mossies that are infertile and bringing the rates down to almost zero? Seems to be a resounding success in other parts of the world that are doing this.

Maybe they are smart enough to realise that "genetically modifying" nature has adverse effects? OK, maybe going to far ?

The main folks who say this is the "cure all" are those selling them and making money! Just like genetically modified crops! which have done what?

Yes, it was going a bit too far ? How about the money isn't getting into the right hands - their not greasing the right palms? ?

I haven't seen any mossies here in Krabi.  I think the local govn't must be doing something right.

caught that when I was living in Barbados years back -no joke, don't go anywhere without my DEET now.

You sure about that?

I am not a scientist nor even a Doctor of medical practices, but even I KNOW that wshen it is wet ( aka rainy season  more mossies of all kinds abound. Normally in pools of water left lying around in trash and other areas where people dump stuff. it is not Rocket science yet yearly we have to deal with Thai authorities stating the obvious , yet they still do nothing about it. AMAZING THAILAND !!

There's some papaya leaf drink / pulp one can make that is supposed to quickly cure dengue. Something to keep in mind, should work much better / quicker than any official drugs.

Should be very easy to make as well. As long as you got a blender at home.

Aerogard Tropical Strength. 1 bottle to each person, each month.

Terrible disease.
