A Swiss man was arrested at a Chon Buri resort early on Saturday as requested by the Swiss government for having allegedly cheated an insurance firm in his motherland of 600,000 francs or about Bt20 million.

Police from Crime Suppression Division arrested Zumbach Christoph, 68, at the Ban Sareh Lake and Resort under an arrest warrant issued by the Criminal Court on July 17. Christoph denied any wrongdoing.

The Thai Foreign Ministry sought the arrest warrant at the request of the Embassy of Switzerland, which wanted the man extradited to face fraud charges.

The Swiss embassy told the Foreign Ministry that the man is a former driving instructor in his homeland. He is alleged to have faked an accident in order to fraudulently obtain compensation worth 600,000 francs from an insurance company.

The firm later had doubts about the claim, launched an investigation and found that it had been deceived. Police said Christoph had been staying in Sattahip district in Chon Buri since April 15.

He should have tried Cambodia or Laos instead , would be more difficult to locate him .  Unless he is completely innocent.

Time for "Big Joke" to round up all the Swiss and check them out?

Too difficult to distinguish them from all the other Caucasians I suppose.

So round up all the Whites!

NB "Nigerians" is, of course, a generic term for all those of "Sub-Saharan" appearance.

one of the reasons insurance rates are so high

Rubbish, if it suddenly became impossible to use any fraudulent means against an insurance company, does anyone really believe that they would reduce their rates? Be honest now.

Maybe insurance companies, should stop trying to confuse people with their legal jargon, and simplify things.

Oh wait! If they did that they could not make up so many excuses to avoid paying out legitimate claims.

Insurance policies usually renew annually, and that is when consumers notice that their insurance premiums have gone up. There are legitimate reasons for raising insurance premiums. For example, if it was an especially bad year for hurricanes, then there will be a significant increase in homeowners, auto and health insurance claims. To help recover the unexpected spike in payouts, the insurance companies will raise their premiums.

But a significant percentage of a premium increase is to help cover losses due to insurance fraud. In the United States, insurance fraud accounts for approximately $30 billion in lost revenue for the insurance industry. Unfortunately for the consumer, that money has to come from somewhere, which is part of the reason for insurance premium increases.
