Ah, the military mind.

True story from WW2. An airman was given the job to repaint the centre line on the road leading to the airfield gate. Halfway down the road he accidently knocked the can over and being a quick thinker he painted a square on the area. War finished soon after and all went home.

20 years later he returned to a reunion on the airfield and, yes, you're ahead of me, the white square had been repainted every year.

If it moves, salute it.

If it doesn't, paint it.

TBH it is true to some extent in a few countries. Russia and the USA spring to mind.

You are a braver man than me going to sea without even a gun to protect you.

Your son could make up 1% of the crew on the one possible working aircraft carrier if it ever gets any aircraft and goes to sea.

You may appreciate this.

Thanks for the links.

The first one made me laugh and the second one is a bit out of date as there are female sailors serving and even commanding ships now. That said, Churchill was right on the button.

The first time i read the Churchill one i was on a flight from Frankfurt to Bucharest. A big book named "Churchill Quotes" on the front which i had bought a few days before in London. I was in fits of laughter and everyone around me was looking at me a bit funny if you get my meaning. Will always remember that moment. Still have the book.

The problem is, that if the military lose the election who will throw them out of office?

A different set of green uniforms?

Very Possibly. With a general staff as top heavy as here,  we'd be naive to suppose no one else was eager to leave their mark on history.

I've heard talk of 'watermelon soldiers' meaning they're 'red shirts' underneath the green, biding their time.

How many, and even how true this may be,  I cannot say.

Honesty, knowledge and capability in that order.

A lie detector test followed by an IQ test would be a great requirement to introduce for all prospective candidates, would eliminate about 95% of them.

Would the IQ test have a 'pass mark' or just establish that there was oxygen reaching their brain?

Baby Steps!
