Video: Police praised for tying little one onto dad on motorcycle

10pm.jpg

Picture: Thai Rath

A video posted on the Facebook page of police in the north east of Thailand showed a cop tying a cloth and using a cord to secure a little girl to her dad on a motorcycle.

The cops had seen the father riding with one hand and holding onto his daughter with the other.

Ban Klang cops in Nakorn Panom deemed this to be unsafe and called him over at a checkpoint.

But rather than fine him they helped out with the unusual "safety harness".

They then advised the dad to get helmets and waved him cheerily on his way.

Thai Rath reported that public comment on the story was praiseworthy for the police.

  • Police advised the man to get a helmet? What the hell, police should have not allowed him to leave until both father and daughter were wearing helmets.

Everyone knows that when it really comes down to it - sentiment trumps law and health and safety.

Speaks volumes about the attitudes towards safety.

Pure idiocy, pure ignorance... and pure pride... An unusual mix anywhere else.

At least Dad has his own airbag for some protection ?

It's just depressing confirming each day that there is no hope for this place.

Flawed attempt at irony I suspect...

In short, at the very minimum the Police should be enforcing the use of helmets for both father & Child.

The total lack of enforcement and this 'faux-jai-dee' approach makes those who fail to enforce safety complicit in the tragic consequences of further carelessness, again usually a result of further lack of enforcement in other areas.

... these reports do nothing more than highlight the eye-rolling stupidity at play....

It's better then extortion!

I really don't want to read a headline that states

Man saved from serious injury after falling from motorbike ---------

No hope for what? a safe & affordable public transportation system for all or the hope that people won't need to venture out and should just stay at home? ?

Its a "developing country" quite what it is developing into is beyond me, though it remains a great source for uneducated cheap wage slaves for the ruling elites! ?

Well, the "peasants" across in Vietnam are way more poor than the people in Thailand, BUT they manage to drive on one side of the road and wear helmets.

I never blame people for being less fortunate than myself, but I also don't accept poverty as an excuse for stupidity. It doesn't matter how poor you are - you should protect your children to the best of your ability. That means, if you can afford a motorbike, you can afford a helmet.

I'm guessing the cops might have missed a few...

Thailand road safety in 2018. Amazing he didn’t give them an amulet to keep them safe too...

I've seen this on the streets quite often nowadays, dad picking up the kids from school and tying the kids to themselves, just last week I also saw a little girl wearing a helmet also which is quite rare, wanted to give the dad a thumbs up
