Temporary Crisis Center orders all provinces prepare for flooding

BANGKOK, 3 September 2018 (NNT) – Thailand's Temporary Crisis Center has ordered all provinces to prepare appropriate plans as more rains are forecast to hit the north, northeast, east and south between today and September 8.

The Temporary Crisis Center has indicated that heavy rains in the region over the past seven days have necessitated major dams in the Lao PDR to increase discharges. The higher release rates have put Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Nakhon Panom, Mukdaharn and Ubon Ratchathani at risk of flooding.

The Mekong River is expected to rise rapidly over the next seven days and burst its banks in areas such as Ponpisai and Rattanawabi of Nong Khai, Pak Kad and Bueng Kong Long of Bueng Kan and Khon Jiam of Ubon Ratchathani.

Relevant units have been told to assess the situation in their areas and prepare plans accordingly while keeping citizens aware of the situation.

Pa Sak River, Songkram River, Huay Luang, Nakhon Nayok River and Prachinburi River have all also shown signs of rising and will likely overflow in the days to come.

Areas below dams, such as those along the Petchaburi and Kwae Noi Rivers, have also been alerted to possible flooding. Authorities have been told to prepare assistance.

Get those fans out of your houses and turned on.   Blow the rain away and the Junta will patent the idea too

But they promised last year that there would be no more floods.
Just like they have promised every year since Buddha was a baby.

Water levels around Rangsit seem lower than usual.  Then again when they open things up it starts to get nasty.

Usually, this time of year I have to close the school because of flooding for a day or 2 so far it has not even been more than an inch.

Yes I am knocking on wood

Here comes 2011 again

The financial impact on people had some long lasting effects in 2011, but Thai people seem to be able to cope with natural disasters without expecting external help.

I took this photo near Chattuchak market in 2011- but wished I'd also managed to get a shot of the converted motorcycles with the 'high level' engines.  There was also a thriving business fitting tall exhausts to trucks, and the motorsai teams converted to boats in some areas.  I remember that the floodwaters seemed to stay around for weeks in 2011?

2 weeks floodwater if you were lucky and on high land.

On low land the water stayed for 6 weeks or so.

Yes - some of my friends had the 6 weeks - enough for mushrooms to grow in their trucks, and for the walls of houses to expand and collapse.  ?

If you need to pay for your TV, bike or truck over years on an installment scheme, the flood damage can be a long term issue.

We had several expensive cars floating around in our moobaan...

What annoys me now is that the walkways are full of steel pins/poles for commercial banners..so even if we get a flooding it's very dangerous to walk home on the sidewalk.

Thai don't learn anything from disasters and always only care for money...

<deleted>

instead of wasting billions on submarines and trains a mass water management engineering project should of been implemented years ago and certainly by the Junta seems they so squeaky clean & do no wrong .

7yrs+ of ignoring it !  Just ridiculous .

Gondola's; that's what they need for this time of year. Improve tourist season through the rainy season.

Temporary crisis centre?

Did they assassinate the disaster prevention committee, and the flood mitigation council?

Who are they going to blame this round?

The water level at the canal is quite high in Rangsit area

They need all the crisis centres they can get. More heavy rain is on the way to the North of Thailand.

People affected need to forget about the fool who is in charge and go about saving their belongings.

The fearless leader in charge of water resources will appear at some later date when the crisis is over and with great fanfare declare the country safe thanks to himself. Yawn!

Reason to post pone the election.....Dear Leader will be thrilled if there's flood...
