Recommendations for a haircutter who can understand in English "trim only" etc. and of course who you are happy with?

 

Cut only, no shampoo.

 

Bonus points if it's in or close to the old city/backpacker area but not essential.

 

 

 

 

 

On Thapae Road between Siam Commercial Bank and Thapae Soi 1 there is a complex of shops with that includes a Thai restaurant in front and there is a barber shop / beauty salon in the back.  In the screen shot you can see a guy wearing a green shirt.  Walk back there and to the left.  The shop is owned by a gal named Nan who speaks good English.  Haircut will cost you 100 THB.  Nan normally works Mon - Sat from about 1PM onward.

Chiang Mai Gate - north side of the actual gate on the corner is a barber. 100 baht, no problems with a trim although learning the term nid noi (little bit) always helps.

I spent yesterday afternoon trying to find a woman named Nat/Sunshine Barbershop, who several here recommended 2 years ago in a similar thread and who was in the same area.

 

Wonder if the same woman.

 

I found Thapae Road and Th. Soi 6 after reading your post but was too hot and tired to make it to Soi 1 but should be able to find the shop using your description.

Hopefully she'll be there.

 

Saw a solo woman haircutting near where Sunshine was supposed to be and asked her the price for a man's cut.

450 baht.

That's almost what I pay in the US.

Figured out today how to enter lat./long. into my GPS app and found it.

 

As I was 90% convinced would happen, Nang wasn't there, door locked.

A woman at the adjoining  restaurant said she hadn't seen her today.

 

 

Will continue this existential quest next week.

Told me works Sat. and I think Sun. also during high season, Mon. -Fri. currently.

 

She understood English and did a good job.

She's conservative for a 1st haircut which I like - easy to request cutting more off, making sure she doesn't misunderstand and cut too much off.
