Her holiday night from hell started with a quiet family drink and ended with a day-long blackout after an attempted abduction.

Now an Auckland professional is warning Kiwis visiting Thailand to keep their guard up — even in the resort hotspot of Phuket.

The HR manager was rescued from a taxi after being lured away from her fiancé by a suspicious Russian.

Out cold at the time, she's adamant her drink was spiked and believes human trafficking was a possible motive.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

frightening.

she should publish an identikit picture

That's her barred from entering Thailand again....

If true and this was a human trafficking attempt, I'm assuming the destination was a boat? Like Crossy states, why the 2 year delay, definitely impacts credibility.

Just to ride on the wave of bad news.. she probably got paid for the interview... I will not say anything about the rape, but when people fail to report or report long after the fact.. what do they expect to happen.

Its very possible she reported it in Thailand and the police just sent her on her way as 'nothing happened in the end'... After reading so much news of general police inaction when reporting crime can imagine this happening although my comments are only speculation.

It's also possible she reported this in NZ a few years ago, but there was nothing she or the NZ Police without jurisdiction could do.

In light of recent publicity, its possible a news paper got hold of her story and as you said, followed the publicity trail.

Thus: I don't think the timing of this media report being 2 years after the event brings her credibility into question as there may be other factors at play.

Richard, i believe a lot of bad things happen in Thailand.. but I also believe there is a lot of fake news to cover up people's own failings. The black guy recently almost went down for rape of a UK woman and was cleared. So I don't believe everything because people have their reasons to report fake news.

From the news article: "The HR manager was rescued from a taxi after being lured away from her fiancé by a suspicious Russian."

There will be no belated investigation anyway - it was a pesky foreigner.

suspicious Russian? How exactly did he lure her away, free g string or something?

what I would call jumping on the band wagon

Not entirely sure a Thai would choose a black woman to abduct for 'human trafficking'.

The usual choice is white girls with blonde hair.

"I've been reading these books about trafficking recently"

yeah no shit, stop reading those books, they're obviously making you paranoid.

so basically the nursing staff were correct. you all got pissed on holiday and everyone eventually made it home. jeez. that's a story is it?

should be at least 5 stories about me every week in the news then ?

Very, unlikely.  If that was the case why would she not have mentioned it?

Newsflash.

There are unscrupulous people in the world.

Just drink bottled beer, and insist have the bottle opened in front of you.

The Russians thrown in is the weird twist, but being drugged is possible with the story. Ransom would be my call. Sex trafficking sounds odd when easier targets could be abducted.

It's the going for a few drinks, not more than you would on a working holiday night, and then having 5 hours where you end with a somehow sob

er "what happened" event, and you are told, or not what happened. Get's scary then a few days later when you still can't recall anything.

A above is posted that way for perspective!

To all you “experts” debating the rights and wrongs of the veracity of female sexual assault complaints I can tell you that in the UK thirty years ago when I was serving most victims were strongly interrogated to try and establish the truth. It was only after a documentary on Thames Valley Police I think by Roger Graef, that attitudes changed, rape crisis centres were set up and cooperation with women’s organisations was established.

Knowing how far behind attitudes in Thailand are, especially in the police who have just stopped recruiting women officers through the Academy, I would not trust any Thai police or government statement about the truth of any allegation here, sexual or not.

Because it was a Russian not Thai!!! Deflect current news and blame pesky foreigners!!

Nothing wrong with issuing more warnings about drink spiking, I guess there are still some naïve young people unaware of the danger.

However, after being caught in the act these particular low lives no doubt fled to other parts. I haven't heard of other kidnappings or attempted kidnappings in Phuket that fit their MO.

To publicize this 2 year old, unproven, event as current news is really just scare mongering.

Russian? KIWI ? 2016 ??

PHUKET ??  BIG JOKE is it not?

Or FAKE NEWS ? ??

I’m not passing judgement on the lass but how do you get lured away from your fiancé. What was he doing at the time? Was his drink spiked too? Was he out of the area on some urgent business he suddenly needed to attend too. His back story on the day in question may shed more credibility to her story or cast doubt. If I was at a bar and some Russian bloke started chatting up my fiancé I would be rather hostile and on full alert!

This woman will face jail in Thailand for defaming.

From the NZ article, they (not just he) lured her with the prospect of a foursome.

I've been reading these books about trafficking recently

That explains why she needed two years.

I'll bet the police will refuse to write a report on this.
