VERNON Unsworth played a leading role in the Thai cave rescue operation in which he helped save trapped schoolboys from Tham Luang cave.

But despite his heroic efforts the diver has come under repeated attack from the Tesla tycoon Elon Musk — who he is now suing. Here's the latest.

Who is Vernon Unsworth?

Vernon Unsworth is a 63-year-old financial broker from St Albans, Herts. He discovered his love for exploring cave systems in the Yorkshire Dales. The experienced Brit caver now lives in Chiang Rai, Thailand.

Before the Thai rescue operation, he had been in a number of rescue efforts in the UK, but "nothing on this scale".

There is a saying about lawsuits -- "Never get into pissing contests with skunks or people who buy ink by the barrel."   Everyone knows Musk is acting like a nut.  A lawsuit will only throw gas on a smouldering fire.  A lawsuit in the US over this issue will not get Vernon a single sitang.

why such a small amount. Its a bit weird isnt it? If he persued this in a U.S courtroom surely he could get millions. He sounds a bit clueless if he is only going for 70k

"Unsworth is seeking $75,000 (£57,000), plus punitive damages,"

It's the punitive damages that will be in the millions if he wins the case....

The paltry amount asked for is a gambit, hoping the jury will say What the Heck, it is only a small amount so vote for the guy to win.  THEN the judge decides punitive should be a billion dollars or more. Just a lawyers gamble to win jury votes.

Musk should not have wound up the 'diver who never dived in the cave' in response to his stupid "shove it up your ****  comment. It's all silly but Musk should not have said it.  What's all this 'hero' stuff from some posters?  anyway they both have big mouths.

Just a useless person at the keyboard bashing people.

Boy, canopy, that's quite a temper you got, there. I, like most posters, criticised Musk for his motives and remarks, yet you set off on your 'There is no reason to trash any of these people' rant. You're not a shareholder by any chance, are you?
