BANGKOK — Suvarnabhumi International Airport said Wednesday it will spend 20 million baht to step up security after two obsessive fans of a Korean film star impersonated customs employees to sneak into sensitive areas.

Fingerprint scanners and new ID cards will be among new security measures an airport official said will be launched next year to prevent a repeat of last week’s incident in which two women were let inside secure areas by two employees to ambush the arriving star.

This time it was just a bunch of harmless groupies...but what if its terrorists next time who pretend to be airport employees with fake id cards ?

Security regulations harass and make a heavy nuisance on nornal passengers,  but apparently are a total flop to enforce screening of airport workers in Bangkok.

No security system is foolproof if employees are complicit in circumventing them.

The upgrade effectively means the cost of a bribe to allow people to breach security again has been increased in line with inflation ?

I believe this has been going on for a long time. About two years ago, I was on a TG flight from Incheon in business class with some famous Korean boy band who were traveling to BKK for a concert. Ignorant me as I wouldn’t know who they were, but even the FAs were getting autographs during the flight. When we arrived, at least a dozen young girls with badges were all waiting at the exit of the jetway, all shrieking, taking photos, and trying to shake hands. I asked myself at the time: now how is it that all these fans just happened to have arriving flights at precisely the correct time to have access to the arrivals area?

Now I know.

Honk Kong International airport  is impossible to enter without an up to date electronic smart ID card.

The computer reading your ID let's you in...not the airport security people.

The way things are going, it won't be long before taxi mafia is waiting at the aircraft door asking where you go mitter.

From the article:

Kittipong said the unidentified staff, named as “Piano” and “Sai” in the Instagram posts, could be charged for allowing unauthorized people into a secure area and giving them their ID cards.

So the HK system would still have let them through, unless the now proposed fingerprint ID was required there.

an airport official said will be launched next year, so all you terrorist, look out you have only 5 months before it will be more difficult to breach security. In the meantime, come and go as you please.

Why not do what every other airport does when there is a possible security breach, tighten up security NOW
