Mitch Kapor, the designer of the Lotus 1-2-3 software database has decided to develop Chandler, an open-source, serverless personal-information manager (PIM) that will take on Microsoft's Outlook service.

I am not certain what the requirements are for this application. I just found it by doing a Google using PIM + Open Source.

Thanks for the interest so far.

There has got to be something like Outlook Tasks being developed, apart from Chandler. It is so useful, and why is it missing from OO? Doesn't anybody else think it is a good idea?

Check out these two open source calendar managers and see if they fill the requirements.

Mozilla Calender/Sunbird

Read the FAQ.

The cross-platform Mozilla Calender/Sunbird application, from the Mozilla Foundation, shows great promise despite still being in the early stages of development. It is available as an add-on to Mozilla, Firebird, and Thunderbird under the name Mozilla Calendar, and as a stand-alone application called Sunbird.

Rainlendar

Rainlendar is a feature rich calendar application that is easy to use and doesn't take much space on your desktop. The application is platform independent so you can run it both on Windows and on Linux.

Lite Version: FREE

Pro Version: 15 EUR

note: The (only) 2 advantages with the Pro Version is that it allows for network shared calendars and supports Outlook.
