Premchai Karnasuta, a walking cane in hand, arrives at a court on Aug. 6.

BANGKOK — Court dates have been set for construction mogul Premchai Karnasuta’s trial on charges of poaching, media reports said Saturday.

Quoting an official in the prosecutor’s office, JS100 news said the first witnesses will take the stand Nov. 27 to testify against the influential president of Italian-Thai Development, who’s been indicted on six charges related to an alleged hunting trip in a wildlife sanctuary in February.

The hearing will run through Dec. 27 and see 49 witnesses take the stand for both sides. Premchai is also charged with illegal possession of firearms, which will be tried separately in July.

His "handlers" have staged a little aging and feebleness look until after the trial when he will return to being a ruthless killer of innocent animals. I guess eating the panther's penis didn't do much for his own manhood.

Possibly just a balls up ?

They were playing this up like people were outraged .... and even put out an ecological angle about wildlife destruction. Those stories died months ago, looks like the outrage was 90% PR ? manufactured.

MLB playoffs are coming up.

Really surprising to see this go to court. He will lose. No amount of canes, crutches, casts, and neck braces will buy sympathy from anyone. A plea deal was his only chance. Maybe in light of the rock solid case and him being high profile they decided to put him through the ringer instead.

Unlikely doing a runner is an option for this guy at this point. If he becomes a fugitive from justice he may lose his job, influence, and lots of money from Ital Thai. Even if found guilty he can probably drag out appeals for years so not even a sweat yet.

I think that you will find that there is still outrage from all sections  of the community, more so than for Watchfinder General

I reckon that he will need to watch his step. He may well escape with a few million in fines and damages and no time in the slammer, but many people put animal welfare before human life and can be quite fanatical.

Good job he wasn't picking mushrooms or organizing something on Facebook...would have been done and dusted straight away with 15 years before you could say 'Pudgy bat fastard.' As for the walking stick...give me a break <deleted>.

My guess is that he pleads guilty and pays a fine, pay off the panthers parents so they don't press charges and he walks free. Typical murder trial in thailand.

Hmm, what's he going to pay off the panther's parents with - five kilos of fresh meat each?
