A man has been released on bail as police continue to investigate the mysterious disappearance of an Australian man and his Thai wife in northern Thailand.

Alan Hawk (name transliterated from Thai) and his wife Nott Suddaen, both 61, were reported missing on Thursday by a concerned friend.

The friend visited the couple’s home after being unable to contact them via the Line app the on Wednesday

After she could not find the couple after home she reported the matter to the police.

Officers later found blood stains, which looked like someone had tried to clean, on the ground outside the property.

The couple’s white Ford Ranger was also missing.

Thai media now reports that Nott’s brother had been arrested by police initially over the missing vehicle.

Police say they have CCTV footage of the brother entering the property on September 19th.

The vehicle was later picked on CCTV being driven in Sukhothai and Lampang on September 21st.

The brother denies involvement and has now been released after family members stumped up 200,000 baht in bail money.

Police are yet to confirm whether the Australian man and his wife are alive but have said their investigations are ongoing.

Officers currently believe the disappearance could be related to a family feud.

They added that it is likely two or more people are involved in the disappearance.

Thai media went to the home of the brother and questioned his wife who also denied any involvement

The missing couple have reportedly lived at their home in Phrae’s Muang District for more than 20 years.

The couple’s daughter who lives in England is understood to have arrived in Thailand on Saturday.

Normally bail is paid back aftet court case.

So a suspect in the disappearance has been set free already?

Why should the brother be investigated for the car's disappearance?   How about the couple's disappearance? ??

There's evidence of him with the car.  Presumably, at this stage, there's no evidence to link him with disappearances.

Yup, and he must have been charged with something if he has been given bail.

Yup, that something was very clearly stated in the OP to be regarding the missing vehicle.

Article states arrested not charged.

Article also states that he was bailed which means that "arrested" in this case also suggests that he was charged.  Obviously.

Sure, personal experience of some 30+ years in business dealing with Thai incompetence, ineptitude and croynism at all levels and including several legal firms.

So out of all that alleged "incompetence, ineptitude and cronyism" did you ever have an incident where your bail was not returned to you by a court, which is what this is all about?

Good luck being repaid in Thailand bud.

I once was arrested and paid 100.000THB bail.

I got the money back 100%.

If you use a lawyer, you are lucky to get back 70%, for all mysterious reasons the lawyer will tell you...

This is interesting. Do they - whoever holds the dosh - pay the lawyer for you?

"In fact, we find that many of our clients have already worked with other law firms and quickly found them to be useless, lazy, thieving, etc…"

Couldn't find that part on that link, would that be because it wasn't there, I wonder?

I found it.

Easy enough if you look.

Look under “does thailand bail do any free work up front”
