Improper training of security personnel. Improper screening of applicants to hire. You can point the finger anywhere you want. IMHO, there is no justification for violence. Thailand is a peaceful country. Normal Thai style diplomacy could have resolved this.

The Chinese tourist had been refused entry into the country and had been detained. He exited the detention area and was wandering the airport, likely looking for an exit and to enter Thailand. The cop was doing his job. At some point reality smacks you in the face, like this guy found out.

The tourist should be co-operative if not then standard procedure applies the person should be restrained with handcuffs, if that person refuses handcuffs then several guards are called and that person is wrestled to the ground and fitted with restraints and walked or dragged to the interview room. No hitting allowed just firm restraint. Thailand needs to stop bowing to their Han Masters over every little incident.

Do I have this correct? He was not allowed to enter the country, placed in detention but feeling entitled, broke out if detention and entered the country? He was then confronted by security which apparently had no choice but to clock him. Now, the Chinese are whining. Via Jakarta with no onward ticket and presumably, no job.

 

Lucky for him it wasn't in states. He'd have been done serious harm by the cops, multiple charges, jail and plane back to communist China.

BANGKOK, 29 September 2018 (NNT) - Don Mueang airport has punished a security guard for mistreating a Chinese tourist at the airport. 

Don Muang Airport General-Manager Wing Commander Suthirawat Suwanawat said regarding an online clip showing the airport's security guard who physically assailed a Chinese tourist. 

He admitted the incident shown in the clip actually occurred at the airport, as the passenger who had just arrived from Indonesia failed to produce a valid documentation on any reserved accommodation in Thailand, exhibited inappropriate behaviors with immigration officials, and refused to stay in the lounge awaiting the deportation. 

The passenger prompted the airport's security guard to take action, leading the passenger to try to run away, requiring the guard to use force to stop him. The physical action on the part of the guard was considered unreasonable. 

The airport general-manger expressed apologies regarding this incident which could affect the country's tourism image, and will send a letter of apology to the Chinese Embassy in Bangkok. 

The security guard in question has been fired while the airport general-manager currently gets himself under a 30-day suspension to show responsibility, and will take part in an investigation.

No, you don't have it correct. He was refused entry for the single reason that he couldn't show proof of accommodation in Thailand. He didn't "break out" he walked through a door into an adjoining room where his friends were waiting. He wanted to talk to them about his situation. He made no attempt to run away or leave the airport. I also believe his story that Thai Immigration asked him for an extra 2k baht to "make the problem go away". Par for the course here.

 

Guard was suffering from "little big man" syndrome and tried to impress his mates with his fighting prowess, which was probably his biggest loss of "face" as the world has seen that he punches like a girl.

 

I have no love for Chinese tourists. From personal experience, I can say that they tend to be loud and arrogant and sometimes a little aggressive. However, on this occasion, my sympathies lie with the tourist.

the immigration officers are to blame for letting him out the detention room.

It is them who should have used force to keep him in.

 

They should be the ones to apologize, including to the guard.

 

Chinese will lough about that incompetent handling (what handling are they used to in their own country??? How are they handling unwanted foreigners?)

 

 

And btw. will security guards be willing to do their job in the future - knowing they have no back up - after that experience?

A belligerent criminal was dealt with in an appropriate way by a decent Thai security guard. The Chinese rubbish travelling around the world, uneducated, insensitive and unleashed by cheap travel are locusts. Scandinavia featured recently with this kind of story.

I hope the Chinese individual is also fully investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law in terms of airport security and immigration offences that he committed.  Why should Thailand have to apologise as it was the behaviour of the Chinese tourist that caused the altercation?  I freely admit that the security guard should not have reacted in that manner, but the incident would not have happened if the Chinese tourist had not breached airport security.  Quite a touchy subject these days.
