Yesterday I went to Korat Immigration to apply for a 90 day Non-Immigrant O Visa based on retirement.  I had deposited over 800,000 THB into the Thai bank and had all of the supporting documents for form TM-87.  In a similar fashion to GoodisonPark ( his post dated September 26) I was told that to get this visa I would have to go to Laos and that the money would have to age 90 days in the account.  All of the people at this branch were very nice but it was clear to me that this visa would not be granted.  I did extend my visa exempt by 30 days to give myself a bit more time to sort this out.

So I suppose I have several options.  Any forum advice it quite useful.

1)  I could go to Laos to apply for this visa but according to this forum and the Thai Embassy website in Vientiane I would have to get medical and police clearance.

2)  I could go to Bangkok, hire an attorney and get this 90 day visa for perhaps 10,000 Baht then get the year long extension in Korat.

3)  I could marry my girlfriend, go to Laos and get the marriage visa.

My question is concerning the police clearance and medical certificate.  I am an American but lived in Germany for 4 years prior to coming to Thailand.  I have been here about 4 months now living off visa exempts by air.  Oh no!  Would I get the police clearance in Germany or the USA?  I think this clearance would cost far more than the legal fees in Bangkok.

My second question concerns the medical clearance.  Can I go to a local physician and get a form letter to clear this.

Thanks.

Did you have proof from the bank the 800k baht came from abroad? If you did then they should of accepted your application.

All immigration offices are authorized to accept non immigrant visa applications.

1. Savannakhet does not require the police or medical certificates. But they do want proof you are retired. You could do a income affidavit at the US embassy showing any amount of income to prove you are retired.

Vientiane will accept a Thai police clearance certificate but it can take up to 30 days to get it. Website for police clearance certificate. http://www.pcscenter.sb.police.go.th/eng/ They will accept a standard Thai medical certificate from a clinic or hospital.

Thanks Ubonjoe.  I have proof of money transfer.  I am 60 so I do not get social security from the US yet.  I live off of savings.  I do get dividend income.  Can I use that to get the required income affadavit required for Savannakhet at the US Embassy?  Thanks again.

You can use any income earned outside of Thailand for the income affidavit.

Info for the affidavit is here. https://th.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/local-resources-of-u-s-citizens/notaries-public/income-affidavit/

You need an appointment at the embassy of do it,

What is the police clearance and medical certificate for retirement?

It is only needed in Vientiane to apply for a non-o visa for retirement. Other locations and immigration do not ask for them.
