Popular Post Xavnel
So today had a bit of craziness at Immigration Office. The wife and I (both American) arrived at the Immigration Office at 4:50 AM. There was 4 people already waiting in line and one guy just showing up. I dropped off the wife at the steps (back of the Line) then went to park the Motorbike. As I parking a mob of about 30 people was walking thru the parking lot towards the line. As I got got back to my wife , I quickly saw that the 30 people were all Chinese and then the chaos had already started. One of the Mob grabbed the Queue post/signboard, moved it and then told the people who were already there waiting that "We 1st, we already waiting, other people after Chinese." As you can imagine, the people that had been there waiting, were not having it... so the argument started. The Chinese people said that they waiting from last night .... yet not one was actually at the Immigration Office and then just show up and dictate to others that you are superior? Come on... In the end, the people who were first their held their ground and did not let the Mob bump them out if doing what they were there for. But really, the whole thing was ridiculous. Also approximately 6:30.... another group of Chinese showed up and just jumped in with first group.... Because of this, the people that were in Line from 5:00 until 6:30 we're not able to get in (because of the Queue limit). Never seen this happen before so I figured I would share it. 9 2 4 2

Popular Post NancyL
For the OP -- what queue was this? What service were you seeking -- extension of tourist, education, retirement visa? 90 day report? What? How many queue tickets were available for that service? You mentioned that the people who arrived after 5 am were not able to get queue tickets because they reached the limit for the day. Was the fact that there were queue-jumpers (and quite a few from what you said) brought to the attention of the immigration officers distributing the queue tickets? 1
Popular Post SammyT
Have seen this attempt to happen before, albeit on a smaller scale. Group of about 8 Chinese roll up bang on when the numbers start getting handed and just try to muscle their way in in front of an older women standing a couple in front of me. Fair to say some terse words were exchanged and they resigned themselves to the back of the line, but I just don't get it. Cultural differences are one thing, but I can't quite see how anyone, no matter what culture, can think that their time is more important than anyone else who had been waiting for hours longer 8 1

He was not Chinese. The main fault is with immigration and their appalling management of such things creating the problems.Obviously the opportunity provided by the move to get things in to a reasonable state has not been taken. 4

Well he's an <deleted> too then. My experiences in my time in Chiang Mai with anything that involves queuing (immigration, airport, shopping centres, drivers licence place) is that if someone pushes in front of me, and it has happened regularly at all of those places, they are normally Chinese. The fact that one non-Chinese guy admitted to pushing in at immigration doesn't change that. But I concur that immigration could do things a whole lot better than they currently do 7
Popular Post mfd101
It was interesting to observe, on a recent trip to Hong Kong, the reaction of anger on the part of HK Chinese against the rude & obstreperous mainland Chinese who tried to jump the long tourist queues. My HK friends really detest the mainlanders.

My wife was there to extend her ED Visa, she had did the 90 day check in in Friday(but missed the Queue by 2 then because of jumpers). The Immigration guy on Friday told her that they only allow 70 per day. I do not know exactly how many were actually in the Mob that arrived, I did not sit there and count, but I know that the 1st group was right around 30, the 2nd one that arrived later and joins the others was maybe 10-12, maybe even 15. Again, I did not count, I just noticed them filtering into the line with the others. As far as s people complaining, I do not know as we was inside the Office.

Popular Post holy cow cm
I have had an experience and saw one or two of the Chinese bullies doing this over the several last years. It is a from of intimidation bullying. I seriously don't put up with it and honestly am not opposed to a physical altercation if that is what is needed. I had an instance of it happening at immigration exit at Suvarnabhumi 5 months ago. 8 Old 60-70 year old Chinese men and woman just undid the que rope from the middle and walked in front of me. I got very hot and heated and boisterous until one of them said sorry. Chinese can be the worst of the worst. Hold your ground and push back. After the Suvarnabhumi ordeal, I am resolved to never ever let any single one of them get past me, and will help out against them for justice for another. 9

NancyL
Do they still have a "uni-queue" for "retirement, medical and education" at the new immigration building? If so, then it's really unfair to expect the retirees and people with medical problems to compete with young student bullies to get one of the 70 queue tickets for the day. They really should go back to have separate queues for these services like they did at Promenada before Songkran.
car720
This is, believe it or not, a common problem in all countries. It is just that in most countries the lower classes don't usually run into the upper classes. My friends in China would not do it but they have in fact claimed to have had it done to them. Remember that most of the Chinese populace is uneducated and are even referred to as that by others. The problem is that most westerners have not the slightest idea of just how many 1.5 billion people are. Try to catch a train or bus during spring festival. It is an experience that only a lucky few wish that they had never had.

Popular Post Juan B Tong
Personally, I Iove a Chinese Iine/scrum. Because I go first! After Chinese Iine/scrum experiences in Macao, Taiwan and other places, I just stopped being polite. I figure that being 6‘2" and 90kilos qualified me to give rudeness lessons and I just push them out of my way and go to the front of the Iine. So far, its worked fine with the rude sods. In line in a Chinese bank when one guy brassed in straight up to the teller. I yelled at him and after a bit of stunned silence the Chinese in the line joined in until he slunk back into line. It is not unusual to be conducting business at the teller only to find somebody next to you begin trying to business across the front of you. The disappointing thing is that often the teller will stop with you and attend to the newcomer.
nickmondo
CM Immigration is the absolute pits! Someone needs to take charge of these people and organise it for them. Its not blooming rocket science ! Just needs a seperate line for each type of visa, use cheap barriers to from the lines, have the lines well signed, and a Security guard there to stop the ignorant Chinese, and other queue jumpers. Job done.
Popular Post Shaunduhpostman
Two True Tales of Chinese Related Place Taking Argy Bargy and Not Putting Up With it: At Don Mueang a few weeks back we had an hour wait in the queue for immigration processing. One guy, an American or Canadian, seemed to be Phillipino-American, it doesn't matter, I wasn't thinking about ethnicity, race, or any of it till he brings it up, and I see him walk up to one of the two queues with lines winding around out the doors and he stands next to it at about the 75% finished point in the queue. He's going to try and cut in front of this rather distracted looking nerdy Korean guy about two places ahead of me and I ask him, "Excuse me are you looking for something?" He says completely blamelessly, "Well, I'm just trying to see what my options are in getting through this queue." I'm like, "Your options?...(?) We have been waiting for an hour. Thats your only option." He's like, "Well, yeah, that's because the Chinese have 6 of their own queues and all the staff are helping them get through and not us." I'm like, "Well, then if you're Chinese, by all means, go for it, that would be the easiest way to do it. What are you standing here for? But cutting in front of Mr. Kim here and also cutting in front of me and the 100 others behind me is not an option." He then loses his slick-oh used car salesman cool and completely loses it, "Do you think I'm Chinese? Where the fock are you from? Are YOU Chinese!? I bet your mother is Chinese you prick!" I'm like, "Well, you are trying to jump the queue like you're Chinese, so what am I supposed to assume? So, hey, ya know, if the shoe fits why not wear it then a-hole! Maybe that will work in the immigration line for the Chinese! Maybe take my hint here that you can pass for Chinese, eh, maybe thats all thats required, That you just look Chinese and you'll be on your way and on your holiday in 5 monutes, eh?!" He just walks away to the only other queue processing non-Chinese and found an easier "option" some Japanese girls just defer to his cutting in front of them as tho they don't even see it or care as trained to behave by their society. I was at a Buddhist event in Katmandhu a few years ago. We were all out sitting on a lawn to receive teachings, and it quickly became packed. I had a small blanket and a backpack with my water, lunch etc and left it as my place marker while I went to the toilet. When I came back five minutes later, my blanket and bag were gone and many of the people who had been sitting with me had been cleared away, mostly Tibetan hill people, mostly old ladies, very sweet, giggly types, so they just let it all happen with a nervous giggle were now mostly sitting on each others laps, which is not unusual for them while a 10 by 10 foot or so tarp had been spread and this well dressed stern angry looking Chinese guy lording over it, no one sitting on it, nothing. I am not cowed by angry little 5 foot 4 people in suits, so I went right up to him, trying to contain my outrage and not bust him the jaw and said, "Have you seen my blanket and bag? I left them here a few minutes ago to go to the toilet and they are now gone." He wordlessly just points in a manner suggesting, "over there and you get out of here too," pointing to a spot at the very edge where people were sitting. I went and got my stuff and walked right back and sat right back down where I had been, which was now on his tarp. He starts having a snit, "You can't sit here! Who are you? Who are you with anyway!? You are not with my people! I never met you! I want to talk to your leader! Who are you with! You can't sit here!" I just ignored him and he finally gave up after 5 minutes of yelling at me making a complete ass of himself, the Tibetan ladies cracking up at his little Chinese shit fit. In the end about four people showed up to sit in area that could have had 15-20 Tibetans or any of the other nationalities. Point being, any excuse will do with these people, to push you out of the way. The next day, I'm out on the grass and security come up to me and I get searched. Me alone, they go through my bag, pat me down, find nothing and leave. It would not surprise me if the guy also reported me. So, I was, like the Chinese at Chiang MAi immigration in the OP, sitting on the grass previously. But as I saw, doesn't matter if you are there previously and are saving a spot, if its you and not them saving a spot then it doesn't apply. In any case they are pussycats, just hold your ground and ignore them. The Chinese need to be shown that their entitlements in their own country don't work in the rest of the world. That said, I have had more and more problems with people trying to cut in front of me in queues everywhere, Thais, whitey, Indians you name it at 7-11, BTS, etc. I think its probably my age, I now look like a real pushover, but I wonder if people are not taking a if-you-can't-beat-them-join-them attitude and just doing Chinese copycat stuff. I am usually quick to see the move to cut in front of me and I quickly move in And I am often able to cut in ahead of the queue cutters before their maneuver is completely executed. Some people become become pretty incensed that you would actually try and stand up for yourself and stop them. Hilarious, just an amazing world we live in today full of such colorful and wondrous characters!
