tuffy Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 I received my 3 month Non-immigrant "O" in June 2006. I received my extension in November 06. Will I be grandfathered or do i have to follow the new rules?
lopburi3 Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 Unless you had a multi entry visa you applied for extension before October so you should be under the grandfather rules.
tuffy Posted February 13, 2007 Author Posted February 13, 2007 Unless you had a multi entry visa you applied for extension before October so you should be under the grandfather rules. I had the 3 month non imm "o" and I applied for extension in sept. so in that case i can follow the old rules of 400K in the bank? Is there a limit on the amount of time that the money is in a thai bank account?
lopburi3 Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 Money should be in bank at the 400k level or above for the 3 months prior to application for new extension of stay.

dave111223 Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 How strict are they about having the money in the bank 3 months prior? I have to renew my visa in about 4 months. I have about 350,000 now (and will get the rest soon), but the money that i do have is not in my bank it's in various bank accounts owned by my wife locked in for 3 months (in order to get higher interest). But there is still like 2 months left before i can move the money from these banks to my bank, will this be a problem? So when it comes time to renew i will probably have had the money in there for about 2 months.

This is not realy a good answer but it seems to depend on what immigration ofice you deal with and who you see on the day, I suspect you will be ok. Why not in future put the money in fixed accounts in your name? Many banks will do this. Samui immigration accepted my money being in a fixed account for 2 months. Just read your post again and I am pretty sure that they will allow the money to be in your wifes account as it is based on marriage.

Yes we should have the put the money in my account, but at the time it was easier to put it in her account. And i was not thinking about the 3 month thing, as it didn't seem to exist last year when i applied? The money had only been in the account a couple of weeks last time.
lopburi3 Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 Although it may not be a problem you have a lot at risk (grandfather status) so if I were you I would make sure to meet requirements, even if they may not be enforced. If that means losing interest to move funds early that is what I would do. On the other hand if you can qualify with the new 40k family income provision (wife works?) it might not be that important.
whopper Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 Chiang Mai...I just renewed my marriage extension.I had my money in a 3 month fixed account previous to the application date. This is my 4th extension, the officer said that I should keep the money in my regular account to provide a history next year. I agree with lopburi, it is not worth risking your status for the paltry amount of interest that is taxed by the way @ 15%.
