Visa run choices

Featured Replies

Well, its time for my first Visa run. (I have a multiple entry O)  I have the choice of either:

1. A quick dash to the nearest border and get it over and done with as cheaply as possible. or,

2. Make it into a pleasant few days break.

I live in Bkk.

What route would you take/ have you taken to satisfy 1. or 2. above?

Interesting suggestions please from you experienced guys!

If SARS is not a concern a flight to Singapore is normally one of the best bargains from Bangkok.  Would not consider Hong Kong yet but it is also a good flight deal.  Train trip to Butterworth/Pengang is pleasant and quite cheap.  Also a train to Udorn/Nong Khai for cross into Laos is an option, although you do have to buy a visa.  Arun crossing to Cambodia is probably the cheapest from Bangkok but don't expect it is very interesting.  Could also spend a few days up in Chiang Mai and make a crossing into Burma (and hope that relations don't turn sour while you are there).  As the lady sez; up to you.
