European Schengen visa stamp in the passport

In 2017, 52,595 Thais applied for a Schengen visa in Nordic consulates. Swedish embassy received the most applications (16,396). Finland was the only to feel a decline in applications between 2016 and 2017.

Information provided to ScandAsia from SchengenVisaInfo.com shows that Nordic embassies in Thailand received 4% more Schengen visa applications in 2017 than the previous year.

Based on official Schengen visa applications the Nordic countries are much sought-after from Thailand’s citizens. According to the most up-to-date statistics, the number of them applying for a Schengen visa in Nordic countries reached 52,595 in 2017. When compared to 50,610 such applications from a year ago a slight increase of 4% is noted.

Many SE Asians are enamoured with the concept of snow. I have had visitors in England so disappointed they took a trip to Iceland.

And only 2,000 will return after their visas have expired, the rest vanishing without a trace elsewhere in the Schengen zone as they now basically have freedom of movement, taking up work illegally. Am I paranoid or what?

No you are not.

But, contrary to the African "fugitives", they come to work, dont come to get welfare, and most important are not into the "religion of peace".

The number may indicate rising fear among Thais regarding the outcome of a free and fair 'election' is rising.

It could alternatively mean, as they have not stated the % of female applicants v male,  that many could well be ladies whom have fortunately met a Scandinavian partner and hence wishing to to go to his homeland.

Finally someone on this forum who thinks positively :clap2:

That's a lot of massages for the Scandinavians.

Hope it tuns out a happy ending, for all the applicants.

Most of those visas will be tourist visas. Thais do take holidays overseas you know.

Finland never was a member of the Nordic countries... moronic or forgery ?

It doesn't say how many were actually granted a visa. Methinks that the application numbers do not tell the whole story. There are many rejected applications at other Schengen visa consulates in Thailand.

Why....??

A fashionable bandwagon?

First they need to implement a proper reciprocal visa. 2 month single entry tourist visa.

Then they need to implement a proper system to track them. Mandatory 24 hour address registrations, 90 day check ins with local police and nationwide manhunts to be sure to "Good guys in, Bad guys out" all the evil Thai's who try to visa overstay or work without proper visa's and permits.

Norwegian embassy with info meeting in Pattaya:

Visa with Multiple Entry to Norway:

Several of the participants wanted to apply for a visa to Norway for their cohabitants for more than 90 days, and then it was announced that there is an option called Multiple Entry. For the first time, one such visa may be valid for one year, then three and then five years. However, for thais, it is applicable for a maximum of four years because their passport is only valid for five years.

You are confusing Scandinavian and Nordic. There are three Scandinavian countries; Denmark, Norway and Sweden. There are five Nordic countries; Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.

So yes Finland is one of the Nordic countries.

50000 wifes?

To get some perspective...it would have been nice to know how many applications were rejected/accepted. But of course, we couldn't possibly have any info that would allow us a more deep understanding of the situation. Are we to assume that they were all granted their visas...doubt it. But truthfully reporting many stats does not fit the "narrative" of many these days.

1,700, thail woman gets Norwegian citizenship in 2017
Now the man and the children are coming for welfare.

If they've got any sense not one will come back.

Yep, the general rule of thumb is to travel t countries that are different to your own. It's probably one of the reasons that nearly a million Brits visit Thailand each year - not too many tropical beaches in the UK now are they?

They only go there for the churches...

Or you could just read the whole article, where it's clearly stated how many applications were rejected.

Oh that's alright then, pity the laissez-faire approach

is never reciprocated.
