NACC executive proclaims innocence in gun incident

The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has given a fact-finding committee 15 days to determine why its assistant secretary-general, Piset Nakhaphan, pulled a gun on a taxi driver at the Chaeng Watthana Government Complex in north Bangkok.

Video captured by the taxi’s dashboard camera, which has widely circulated online, shows a man resembling Piset draw a pistol and point it at the taxi driver.

As security guards gather, a woman appears and speaks to both the taxi driver and the man with the gun, urging the latter back to his car. The taxi leaves the scene.

NACC secretary-general Worawit Sookboon confirmed that the gun-wielding man was Piset but insisted this was a personal matter that had nothing to do with his official position and duties.

Worawit’s deputy, Natcha Kerdsri, will lead the fact-finding committee assigned to investigate the circumstances.

Piset told Thung Song Hong police on Tuesday that the taxi had cut in front of him just before he entered the government complex.

He honked his horn and overtook the taxi because he and wife were hurrying to do an errand at a state office.

Piset claimed the taxi tailed him, honking its horn several times with the headlights on high beam.

He said he stopped to confront the taxi driver and took his gun for self-protection but had no intention of firing it.

“I want the public to see what happened before that – not just the clip of me taking out the gun,” he said.

You just can't make this stuff up, what a sad primitive society when this  is one of the heads of an anticorruption task force.

  • So his "position" enables him in a fit of road rage to draw a firearm on a motorist and threaten his life ???    Its this kind of "God" complex that gets people killed and makes those in "po

  • And that demonstrates surely the calibre and mindset of this NACC member,  and of those who appointed him.

Disappointed the Taxi driver didn't pull his gun and have a little shootout.

No matter what is your bloody excuse you DON'T draw your gun threatening people. Big egos, small wiener people.

If this were a first world country the bloke would be in deep doo doo... :whistling:

But lets all be thankful his hi-so job was not sitting behind a desk at immigration...????

and tomorrow it will be revealed that:

Mr. Piset was stressed from his job, because he worked sooo hard

Mr. Piset was frustrated from his wife, who nagged him for not rating at least a Mercedes and chauffeur

Mr. Piset misunderstood the slowing of the other car as a threat on his life, the government, the Nation, and Buddhism

Mr. Piset will then apologize to the country, the Thai people and TAT for confirming Thailand's reputation as a hub of bad behaving officials

but he will not apologize to the other driver, whose life he threatened, instead he will receive another medal to wear

Plus a "bar" to go with his parachute wings.

His fully detailed, accurate, and justifiable excuse has been noted and investigated. It is clearly shown that no further action is required but the taxi driver is now being sort to answer a long list of chargeable traffic offences

Including the .50 cal mounted on the trunk....????

Thats all ok then.. Pulling a gun is no problem.. Maybe it would have been a problem for the guy having the gun pointed at him if he'd rammed him in self defence?

Well what would you do in this situation wait to be shot?

Elsewhere he be in Jail for months and more likely for years.

business as usual then.

dont go to arrest him, ask him to come in when and if he please, on the way buying a songkran watergun to present as the weapon used.

ps. the 2 security guards a poster display why they have zero use beyond road sweeping.

I am surprised they walked into the fray. One might expect them to take cover!

"It is not known if the gun was real of an imitation firearm."

At least as real as the drive to end corruption...

Personally I am more surprised that this "big potato" guy is just driving a measly Accord.

His gravy boat's been sunk, so he's probably stressed-out because he's had to sell the merc.

should be jail time for pulling a gun but here in Thailand it will be a wrist slap, thai laws and the way they are dished out are pathetic

Plus given his position should be dismissed and seriously fined and barred from any similar employment for life.

I think if I was a n taxi drivers position it would have been first gear and foot to the floor,I bet he would have shot the driver if he dared step out his taxi....wild Wild West for sure

Amazing !!!  I will wait for the follow up reports.

i wonder how he paid for that gun? Loose change found under his table?

lucky for him he wasn't videoed with his mere noi or he would be in serious trouble ????

Okay, let us see. Show us the video where you’re so fearful for your life that you had to stop your car, get out and point a gun at someone.

This man should be heavily fined, fired and sent to prison.

You can't make that up ????

After all he was only drawing a gun on a peasant, no big deal ????

Threatening behavior! Displaying a firearm in a public place! No gun license? Any other police force would have a hat day with this bloke.

They’ve missed a trick there. His boss should have said that Piset thought he saw some people committing corruption so he pulled his gun on them to stop it. 24/7 - this man is hunting down ‘colupshun!’.

A bigger gun too! The hotshot would have dropped a pant load there and then!

Probably would have shot him as he was getting out. Doesn't matter how big your gun is if you are shot first you die. Another needless death that this case shows clearly.

Act passively and there is a good chance you will live. A smile and a wai would be a far better defense in this situation. All the gunman wanted was to get the upper hand which he and his passenger quickly obtained which gave him time to calm down. Now the police can take over with no risk to the threatened man.
