I have a 1mb TT&T connection and the speeds are shocking for downloads. Im sure its due to my router, its the basic one that came with the package so I think I need to upgrade. the one I have is a Xavi x8821r+. I know download speeds are shocking over here but at my last apartment they were fine or atleast they were ok. The reason I think that this router is playing up is because sometimes explorer wont work even though I can use skype and msn etc. Sometimes explorer works but i cant sign into msn and when i try it comes up with an error report saying about the dns. Strangly enough everything stopped working the other day, I had a quick look at a torrent i was downloading and the speed shot up to 30kb/s normally its 1 to 2bk/s. Once i done my usual unplug of the router and reset my machine everything works again for a bit but im finding myself having to reset my computer 4-5 times a day. So any decent reconmended routers would be helpfull. Thanks

D-link models 604 or 614 are inexpensive, easy to setup and do fine with p2p. They also give you 4 ports rather than one to plug into.

Are you able to "forward" the appropriate port(s) with you current router? A client like uTorrent tells you if everything is configured properly. What client are you using?

My download speeds had been fine until a few days ago when they dropped to the slow speeds you mention.

I doubt that the problem lies with your router.

I use bitTornado, I followed the guide on portforwarding.com to allow the forwarding of the ports and since then I have got a slow connection, before that nothing at all. In my last place I had a TT&T connection but a different router and it worked fine, not as good as a uk 1mb connection but it never would. Since moving and signing up to a new package and all the other hassle that was envolved getting my internet connection, including not letting the 3rd internet engineer leave my house until he had a web page up on my screen, it has been crap that is why i think it is the router.

Those models (as well as my d-link dsl 500t) are on the utorrent/azureus list of routers with known issues.

http://www.utorrent.com/faq.php#Modems_rou...oblems_with_P2P

I tried updating the router firmware and jiggling with utorrent settings, but I'm ready shell out for another router.

Since the list doesn't actually recommend any routers, can anybody add to the list of routers that work for them?

its possible that in your last place, you had a decent connection as there wasn't 1000 other connections on the same street/village as you.

this place your in now, maybe there is.... that could be why its slow.

also, its possible the wiring inside the actual house is old and corrupt.

that was my problem when i moved in here with really slow speeds.

since then, i removed all the wires, and put new shorter ones direct from the internet box by true on the side of my house directly into the router.

i get massive speeds. downloads in the range of 1 gigabyte an hour.

i strongly reccommend checking with true, and getting them to see what they can do, before you shell out on another router.

if you really do want to buy another, then d-link are not the best but are good value for money.

id reccommend a netgear if your looking for the best.

thats my experience with it.
