sorry i missed your first quote,  2010 consensus 2.83 mill total expats about 1.8 from burma laos neighbouring who work here.  My figure of 1 million was answering ops question of foriegners who bring money into the country.

Total expats                          2.8 million

Less Itinerant labourers etc.   1.8 million

Balance                                 1.0 million

- So are you assuming 1 Million all bring money into Thailand every month to support Thai families?

- Seems to me you need to do a better / broader analysis of the categories that make up the 1 Million and the amounts of funds they bring in.

- Some are teachers who mostly don't bring money in monthly, they depend on their local salaries. I have seen estimates that foreign teachers in Thailand total around 500,000.

- 1.0 million less 500,000 (estimated leaves 500,000

Now deduct other foreigners working here without WPs

500,000 less  ??????  =  ??????

- ?????? includes retired foreigners who live here and plenty receive pensions big enough to just survive and nothing more.

My point - the total numbers of foreigners who bring big money in every month to support a family is not that big.

To make it clear nobody will ever lose out if anyone is gone. It might seem like that but life will go on after you me or anybody is gone and nobody will bat an eyelid.

b.b.but then my grandson will be an illiterate hauling sides of pork on his shoulder at the local market rather than the nuclear physicist that he's intended to be...and my granddaughter peddlin' her stuff inna bar rather than a future as Thailand's top cardio - vascular specialist...

meanwhile tutsi's ashes are floating somewhere down the Mekong and he's thinkin' 'wonder what them kids are up to these days?'

Thanks for spacing that out made it that much easier to read. That was a 2010 consensus and 2017 figures are alot higher, Thailand is a huge revolving door to stayers here with real figures constantly changing. The groups I was targeting included retirees, metv, setv, ed visa groups (no work allowed visas) included pretty much anyone who brought in a foreign income from ebayers, oil workers, traders, pensioners, digital nomads, overseas property owners. Anyone who fits the bill of coming here with external funds and not taking from the local economy, but injecting directly into it.  The expat doesn't have to have a family even a thai gf/bf, bar steward will send home money to their Ma Pa or children from previous thai partners. The point is with these groups of visiting foreigners life would be a lot harder for alot of these families dotted around Thailand.

Don't worry. Parents would like to but basically have no effect on what their kids become. Children will do whatever they choose to irrespective of mammy and daddy. The moment they reach a certain age when they become capable of critical thinking, who do they go to when they have a problem? Their best friend. Not the parents. So much about parents daydreaming about having any effect on the next generation.

Well, i have 10 relatives here in Thailand who would be financially disadvantaged if i wasn't here. Only one DEPENDS on me - my daughter. My wife works but i pay a much higher proportion of the bills. No-one else is regularly financially supported, but benefit from having a maintained family house, access to more food. borrowing the car or pocket money for doing odd jobs. only 3 work full time, rest over 70, at school or disabled. Yes, i am a one man charity!

Sorry but looks like BS to me. Why would anyone leave now without waiting to know "if" and "how" TI rules can change? It makes no sense.

About farang expats, you just ignore the fact that only a small part of them are on Retirement or Marriage Extension, that only a small part of them use Income Letter, and that only a tiny part of expats could not find a way to stay here. IMHO we are talking at worse about thousands, if not just hundreds.
