I am planning to take my Dive instructor course in Thailand. I have returned from Thailand from my holiday trip and talked to one of the Dive operations. They have mailed me a Letter of reference so I can apply for my 1 year ED visa. The letter states that I will be in the Diving instructor course from June 2007 to May 2008 and asks to kindly issue a multiple entry 1 year Visa.

I plan on going in June, so when should I go to the Thai Consulate to give them my application? How long will it take for them to process it in Houston? Any advice? I understand that once they issue it I have to arrive within 3 months?

Do I already have to bring the Air ticket? Because I have not booked a flight yet.

Thanks.

Houston will issue the visa in a day or so. They won't ask to see the airticket. The visa will be valid for one year from the date of issue.

I understand that once they issue it I have to arrive within 3 months?

Is that true? If so, I'm in trouble...

I'm also arriving on a Ed visa - can anyone tell me what level of questioning I'll receive from immigration? Will I be waved through as i have a year long Ed visa issued in the UK, or will they ask deep and probing questions about what the Ed will actually be?

Anyone able to help?

The Immigration Officer will stamp you in. That'll be it. If you have a multiple entry Non-Immigrant visa, it will be valid for a year, so you are not restricted to making entry within 3 months, you can enter any time during that one year period of validity.

Thanks Doc - and likely to be no awkward questions about where I'm staying, what I'm doing here etc etc?

Having the ED visa, being a intern at my dive operator. Can I get paid during my internship? Would that be ok on a ED visa or do I need a B visa?

What if after I complete my internship and have my dive instructor visa, can I get a B type visa later or can I work for a Dive operation on my ED visa? Thanks

Anyone has a answer or should I apply for a Typ B non immigrant visa from the US?

Is a letter from the company sufficient enough to get a Typ B Visa? Or what else might be needed?

i personally have never heard of a one year ED being issued outside the country. in my case i had to report to uni and they sorted it out. and i got a one year ED. i'm also not aware of any EDs that are connected to multiple-entry visas. but then again that was 15 yrs ago in my case. so i may be wrong. Is it possible you are mixing up visa, annual extension of stay, and multiple re-entry permit?

The visa is a stamp put in your passport by a Thai consulate. This is always outside Thailand.

The annual extension of stay and the re-entry permit are stamps put in your passport by a Thai immigration office. This is always inside Thailand.

Absolutely correct Maestro. A Non-Immigrant ED with multiple entries can be obtained from Embassies and Consulates that will entertain multi's.
