sabaijai Posted June 12, 2004 Share Posted June 12, 2004 I think it's also plausible that King Rama 6 could have gotten inspiration to begin using the Thai "na" from all the "von,af,da,Mc and van's" he met in Europe before the First World War! That would make the use of "na" less than 100 years old and having originated during the Chakri dynasty of the Rattanakosin period. Hmm so the use of ณ instead of น might have deemed necessary in order to distinguish this word from the particle นะ. Still have to wrestle with the fact that this word ณ makes use an unwritten xะ -- which still suggests a P/S origin ... Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
