The Thai Government Says Maybe I Can Stay

Featured Replies

Thanks to all of you who contributed to my previous discussion, "The Thai Government Says I Must Go Away." I went to Vientiane and got a 90 day non-O because I am the father of a Thai child.

This morning the ex-wife and I went to immigration, trying to convert it to a one year visa. They say that we must go back to where we got the divorce and get it adjusted. Apparently (they spoke in Thai) when we divorced she got sole custody of my son. Now we must go back there and get me some custody.

So if you are trying to get a visa because you're the parent of a Thai child, your marital status and divorce settlement with the mother is indeed relevant. If you go that route, the immigration police will advise you as to what you must do. Leave plenty of time.

It will take us a few weeks to get this adjusted; I will let you know when it all flushes out.
