In any "normal"country there are no controls on what private hospitals charge...please cite the relevant regulations/laws from any normal country of your choice, please...people typically go private because they can afford the treatment by virtue of having the money or adequate medical insurance

 

Rather than the Gov trying to cap private hospital costs, they should concentrate on improving the quality of gov hospitals rather

I left Australia because of ideas like that. 2 years for a hip transplant etc. Tax your ar#e of 30 years for the privelage of bludgers who have never worked to benefit from that. Or maybe the so called refugees and their extended families who never even have any intention of actually working.

I know of many people who have flown to Bangkok from Brisbane for a hip or knee replacement because our "universal health system" is rooted.

Pay your insurance here, or pay for the procedure. Keep your socialist, failed ideas in Europe and Oz.

This probably explains why so many of them are a disaster.

 

The best way to keep private healthcare standards up and prices down is to encourage more competition, not state interference.

 

This way public and private healthcare systems can flourish side by side.

Nonsense ! The USA a country where more is spend on health by government per head ?, but it’s the most expensive and fewer people are covered ! The shout goes out “socialized medicine “ aagghhh! Brainwashed lot !

Ambulance always takes you to private,they pay far more.  Private are shysters,the stories they tell patient,urgency to save life,crap,bloodsuckers    Try India  couple of hours away at nearest point  far far less cost and far superior

Next time I am crook, I will be using public even though I am insured as I CANNOT be certain my Insurance Company can cover me. It took six days for me to get an answer off my agent to get the good ahead for my OP when I was in a pretty bad way in Hospital. The hospital kept me healthy enough just to wait for the Insurance coverages answer. If it would have been no, they would have kicked me out on the side of the road within an hour. I had the cash to pay but I was not going to show this to them until I was certain they had exhausted all avenues in getting my Insurance company to pay. 

You made the mistake of dealing with your agent and not directly with the insurance company. Remember most agents know absolutely nothing about insurance and wouldn't have a clue who to contact for claim purposes. They are mostly no more than salespeople. You also must have chosen a company that doesn't have a direct payment deal with the hospital. Most do. In fact I have no idea why you should have been doing this anyway; hospitals have staff dedicated to dealing with insurance companies. 

 

I was in hospital a short time ago. I showed the insurance card and that was it. I probably didn't need to stay in but they wanted the money from the insurers. The medicine bill was a piss-take, though the room and doctor fees were very reasonable. It took a couple of hours wait when I wanted to "check-out" but everything was paid in full.

 

I really don't know why the insurance companies allow themselves to be taken for a ride by the hospitals. Unfortunately overstated claims mean higher premiums. I know many people in the health insurance business and I've never had a satisfactory answer as to why they let the hospitals overcharge.

They took the card and dealt directly with the Company. I know the ropes.

 

They, the hospital tried for cash first (asking for a 100K deposit that I would not give them). I told them to go talk to my insurance. It took a grand total of six days before they got an answer. I got told that they, had to be certain what my problem was and just left me hanging in a hospital bed. I only spoke to my agent as the Hospital wanted a copy (invoice number) of my first Insurance payment form as the Insurance Company said they did not have my 'number' on their books. Was a 'clerical error' on the Insurances part and they tried to use this for a loophole on a 220K Bill saying I was not up on yearly payments.  I was even told I was not a member at the time but I showed them three years in advance of cash payments. Seems my member's card number was 'input' wrong. In general, the agents are useless. I would never use one again if I did it a second time around. 

 

It took almost seven hours for them to release me as they went backward and forwards between payments in trying to bring the bill down and trying to make me pay for certain items. It was direct payment but I did not get released until the final bill got hashed out saving them like 770 baht.

 

Insurance is just a scam in so many ways- it just depends if you can beat them at there own game.

Bit hard to get to India in an ambulance from Thailand...

Having availed myself to Thai private hospitals they are as good as, if not better than most hospitals in the so called western world, never mind India

When I read of ฿100,000 for a couple nights in BH ICU, it makes me so thankful I live in Thailand (well...part time for now).

 

If one had a heart attack or something in the US and had to be admitted to the ICU for two nights.  The costs* would be something like these at a University Hospital.

 

*excluding physician fees, medication, scans, tests etc etc.

 

Room & Board: 2 nights @$6,285 = $13,570 (฿447,430)

 

Emergency Department Charges (critical care level) $3,508 (฿115,666)

 

Well over ฿550,000...and you haven’t even seen a doctor.  God forbid you need surgery (and all the associated costs).

Just had an experience that demonstrates the greed of some well known private hospitals. Need a MRI and found the difference in cost from private hospitals to have a broad range but most overpriced. Quotes had range from 35000 to 10000. Got it done a private clinic for 6000.

Ever been in average private hospital in India?  ever?   is it no?  you just do not know,why comment if you do not know.

  Elective /selective beats anything in Thailand pricewise/treatment wise, yes have availed in both govt,and best private ones in Thailand 

would try a site that has been mentioned often  medifee, see how rates compare Thai to India   mri ,anything really   air fares inc  cheap as 5000 baht return

The opener is 'Display fee'  This they do not,once incarcerated private hosp, checked out with bill that was in orbit,told the boss I'm not paying and call the police, I said too I'm calling the police,came down to half price ,but still way over the top
