Ever wondered why your Thai mail doesn't arrive? This might explain it

A Facebook poster put pictures of what they found in some waste ground north of Bangkok.

A whole bunch of letters and packages meant to have been delivered in the mail.

They said: "You just can't be bothered to deliver the mail? So you toss it out like this do you?"

People commenting said that this is a frequent occurrence in the Lam Lukka area.

Sanook reported that Rangsit post office were refusing to comment further as an investigation was underway.

Though they did say it happened in the Kukot area of Pathum Thani on Thursday of last week.

The poster refused to comment further in fear of consequences, according to a friend.

Please tell me how this makes any difference to the people who didn't receive their mail?

And that goes a long way to explaining why things like this will continue to happen.

An inactive postman, yes.

The quality of local mail delivery, obviously, is dependent on the staff at the local post office handling one's mail.  All I can say is, in years of living in central BKK, the mail service from my local post office and our delivery man, the same guy for years, has been excellent. He's delivered countless packages to us over the years, and never yet had anything go astray. So I guess we lucked out in picking our particular location as a place to live.

As for packages from IHerb, I'd guess that Thai Customs probably has their fingers in that one, more than Thai Post probably does.

Our postman isn't actively inactive, however, the soi is about 200 metres long and our mailbox is the first one  about 20 metres in from the road.

Make a guess what we get in our mailbox.

I was not reacting on the stupid action to throw away mail,

but on the post saying it was not a surprise (because of being in Thailand)...

But it’s not a surprise.

Must be dead easy to figure out who wasn't doing his job and replace them with someone who does, though that's probably another thread....

Even though 5 letters and 3 packages never arrived at my address, far away from being a Thai basher, I assume the postman is just a well aware citizen and only dumped the letters and packages from Nigerian princes to Thai ladies.

i've sent a lot of post home from here over the years and only one package has ever gone missing. i used to spend a lot of time in australia and had a lot of problems with australia post. so there may be problems with the post here but they are certainly not unique to thailand

I think you have to figure the increase in business because of places like Lazada and the post office will not hire more people.  What do you expect?

He knows that, it's just the way he is with rational posters!

This news item and this website are about Thailand. Please stick to the topic, and don't condone this crime because of the feeble argument that "bad stuff happens in other countries too".

USA

I've only used Post Restante.  They only keep it a week or so, and they charge you for having it sit there, I think it used to be 35 satang per day.

I give up sending anything of value years ago.they never got they.now I know one of the reasons why.if I send anything  it has no value and hope it reaches the person I sent it too

Yes, you should never matter-of-factly say something doesn't surprise you. Remember, it happens in other places, too.

Strange!

I have about 150-200 baskets delivered to my home from outside Thailand in the last years,

and only 3 times it never shows up, That is a lot better than my own country!

One friend of mine didn't remember my address so

he wrote "my name and "House Farang" on the packet and I got it 2 weeks later.

So I am quite impressed with the Thai post office.

Consequences? From whom. The only ones who SHOULD be fearing the consequences are the morons responsible. Though TiT, so who can tell.

I worked for The US Postal Service, I did not deliver the mail.

Same problem there.

In job orientation, US Postal Service is very happy with 92% delivered.

Possibly if you send by FedEx, DHL or others instead of postal service, you'll have better luck, also it's best to put tracking on the package.
