Hi all,

I'm married to a lovely Thai woman and we will be having our first child very soon. I have been considering Thai citizenship since before we were married. Now that I am having a family, and we plan to stay in Thailand long-term, it's become more apparent that I would like to obtain citizenship. I'm aware that it seems more trouble than it's worth, but it's still something that I want to pursue.

I've gone through most of the 285 pages of the citizenship thread, ttps://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/121353-story-of-my-thai-citizenship-application/
What I gather is that I do need to be working (with a Work Permit and paying taxes) for at least 3 years in order to apply. There seems to be no way around it.
I have enough money by means of passive income from my home country to support our life in Thailand quite comfortably. I don't mind working part-time doing something enjoyable. Salary isn't important, but a Work Permit is important. I've thought about volunteering, but I believe that would not comply with the paying taxes condition.

What is my best course of action in this situation?

Any help from the visa experts (i.e. Ubon Joe et al), and those who have been in similar situations, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Same situation.. Long term resident, closing in on a couple of decades, married, own (my wife does) property, plenty of funds... But dont see any route. I am not going to find any work here at a pay rate that I would ever consider.

Hence have given up on the process.

Basically it is to find a job paying a salary of at least 40k baht and getting a work permit to qualify for Thai nationality. Then after 3 years you can do the the application. Be aware though you would have to keep working until you have been granted Thai nationality.

Yes, the tax is the most important thing.

In reality, you need to have a WP for a minimum of 6 years.

One option you have is to start a business, whether real or not.

Another is to get a job for 6,7,8... years.
