Thailand Greenlights 661 Billion Baht Railway Development
Thailand is gearing up for a major railway overhaul with nine projects worth a staggering 661 billion baht (US$19.7 billion) slated for Cabinet approval next month, confirmed Deputy Transport Minister Surapong Piyachote. Amongst these, the second phase of the Thai-Chinese high-speed train system, stretching 357 kilometres, holds a significant emphasis. The ambitious plan includes six double-track rail routes, demanding 298 billion baht (US$8.9 billion). These will span several key locations: Paknam Pho-Den Chai, Chumphon-Surat Thani, Thanon Chira Junction-Ubon Ratchathani, Hat Yai Junction-Padang Besar, and Denchai-Chiang Mai. Each of these developments aims to improve connectivity and reduce travel times within the country. In addition, two projects focus on expanding Bangkok’s Red Line system into suburban areas, earmarked at 21.6 billion baht (US$6.4 billion). This covers extensions to Rangsit-Thammasat University Rangsit Campus and Siriraj-Taling Chan-Salaya, enhancing commute options for university students and locales. A standout in this lineup is the second phase of the Thai-Chinese high-speed train system, projected to cost 341.3 billion baht (US$10 billion). This phase extends from Nakhon Ratchasima to Nong Khai, closing the gap on what will eventually be a high-speed rail link stretching from Bangkok towards China. Construction bids are expected later this year with completion targeted for late 2028. The initial phase from Bangkok to Nakhon Ratchasima began in late 2017 but has faced delays, currently standing at 34.9% completion as of July. Adding a grim note, a recent tragedy in Nakhon Ratchasima saw the collapse of a rail tunnel due to heavy rains, tragically claiming the lives of three workers from China and Myanmar. Meanwhile, promising news for international travellers emerged with the completion of a rail bridge over the Mekong River, linking Thailand and Laos and bringing the vision of a Bangkok to Beijing rail journey one step closer. These developments signal a transformative era for Thailand's rail infrastructure, with projects promising both domestic benefits and international connectivity. And then more recently there also was this missive from Musk, which clearly puts him near and dear to Trump's dark heart: Elon Musk Endorsement of 'High-Status Male' Governance Theory Elon Musk, has once again stirred controversy by endorsing a theory that advocates for governance by "high-status males" while excluding women and "low T men" from decision-making roles. The theory, which appears to have originated on the internet forum 4chan in 2021, was reposted by Musk on X, drawing widespread criticism. The theory suggests that a truly free-thinking "Republic" could only be established if governed by "high [testosterone] alpha males" and "aneurotypical people"—a term that the post appears to use to describe individuals on the autism spectrum. According to the theory, these "high-status males" are the only individuals capable of objectively analyzing information and making decisions based on truth rather than consensus. The post further argues that individuals who cannot defend themselves physically, particularly women and men with low testosterone, rely on societal consensus to filter information as a safety mechanism. ... 2 years ago we gave our Honda Click to the family and bought a ฿30k 1,000W Deco Hannah. I occasional use it and it's great fun. This morning someone parked the Click blocking my BYD and I had to push it out of the way. I had forgotten how heavy and ungainly it was after the Hannah. -

Any real men in this generation
I don't live in Somalia or Syria. I hitch hiked all over Europe for a year in my youth, up to Lappland in winter and down to Israel without any altercation. I've never been involved in a fight in my 76 years because I mix with civilized people and don't engage in disreputable activities. My village in Isaan is full of hard working honest people and I have friendly relationships with them all. It may be that if one was brought up in a slum in Glasgow or a council estate in Liverpool 70 years ago that one would meet with mindless violence but that thankfully hasn't been my lot in life. Violence begets violence and I like to think that most peoples mentality is far removed from the teeth and claws of the jungle. -

The 'noise gardener' problem at my condo
It seems condo management are having a contract with a gardener company, and they just keep being busy there: Once their activities have reached the end of the premises, they commence all over from the start. Much, or most, of their activities are being performed using machinery, and the noise this causes is often infernal. At times, they start unannounced out-of-the-ordinary actions, like pruning trees - amputating would probably be a more suitable term: Trees look good before they dealt with them. Afterwards, they are maimed - a horrible sight. The noise all this causes most of the day doesn't seem to be concerning any of the actors. Or rather, some of them seem to enjoy controlling these machines, so being in a position to make themselves heard much more than what otherwise would be the case. And obviously, not one thought is spent on the effects such barbaric actions will have on the fauna. Is it such only here, or are others affected by similar actions? -

Happened to me there 14 years ago and almost ended in blows but the manger stepped in. she was in on it also but after explaining we will have to call the cops and you will have to explain to them how I am being charged 175 baht for 1/4 of a tank on my scooter that doesn't even hold 175 baht. She returned my money in total so I got 40 baht of gas free 🙂 -
