Chinese Tourist Seriously Injured in Pattaya Road Collision
Picture from responders. A Chinese tourist sustained severe injuries after being hit by a pickup truck while crossing the Sukhumvit Road near the Central Pattaya Road Tunnel exit. The collision occurred at approximately 21:30 on 8 February, prompting an emergency response from rescue teams and local police. Upon arrival at the scene, rescue workers discovered a white Toyota Vigo pickup truck fitted with a refrigerated compartment. The driver, identified as 26-year-old Mr. Sitthichai Upree, remained at the scene. Beneath the front bumper of the vehicle lay the unconscious victim, Miss Min Qie, a 61-year-old Chinese national. Rescue personnel carefully extricated Miss Min Qie from under the vehicle, provided immediate first aid, and swiftly transported her to Bangkok Pattaya Hospital for urgent medical treatment. According to Mr. Sitthichai’s statement to the police, he was driving out of the Pattaya Central Tunnel, heading towards South Pattaya Road, when a group of Chinese tourists suddenly ran across the road. Miss Min Qie was the last to cross, and despite his attempts to brake, he was unable to avoid the collision. He immediately contacted emergency services for assistance. Pattaya City Police recorded evidence at the scene and took Mr. Sitthichai to the station for further questioning. CCTV footage from the area will be reviewed as part of the investigation. Authorities have confirmed that legal proceedings will follow in accordance with the law. -- 2025-02-09 -
