Two foreign men, along with two Thais have been arrested on drug charges following a raid on a warehouse in Bangkok, Thai police said on Thursday.

Joseph Toole, 64 from the UK and 67 year old David Kulik from Canada were arrested on Monday in Chonburi.

Their arrests came officers from Thailand’s Narcotics Suppression Division raided the warehouse in the Bang Phli area of Samut Prakan.

Police say that for more than 1 year the men have been using the warehouse to produce large quantities of cannabis oil.

Following the raid, police seized 70 kg of cannabis oil and 6.6 kg of cannabis resin.

Police say the men arranged for the cannabis to be smuggled to the warehouse from drug gangs in Laos. The cannabis oil was then exported to Belgium and other European countries.

Deputy police chief Chalermkat Sriworakan said that Kulik helped finance the operation, while Toole, a former doctor, masterminded the production of the oil.

A Japanese national is believed to head the operation, police said.

At a press conference in Bangkok police also announced the seizure of more than a million methamphetamine tablets that were seized during unrelated raids.

Narcotic Suppression Police officers have raided a one-year-old factory-warehouse in Samut Prakan that allegedly manufactures cannabis tincture for export, deputy national police chief Pol General Chalermkiat Srivorakhan told a press conference on Thursday afternoon.

2.jpeg

The raid in Bang Plee district netted 70 kilograms of cannabis tincture, six kilograms of hashish and some equipment.

The facility was reportedly backed for the most part by a Japanese investor and had reportedly succeeded in smuggling five tonnes of cannabis tincture to Belgium in March.

The detection in Belgium of the cannabis tincture hidden in pressed coconut coir fibre led Thai police to investigate the case until they zeroed in on the Samat Prakan site as the source.

The operation also arrested four suspects, said police. British man Joseph Toole, 67, who allegedly trained workers and performed quality control, was nabbed in Chon Buri’s Bang Lamung district. Canadian investor David Kulik, 65, was apprehended in Chon Buri’s Muang district, while Thai man Suriyan Suwanchairop, 34, was nabbed in Sakhon Nakhon, and another Thai, Supakit Kaewma, 54, arrested in Bangkok.

The police probe found that raw materials were supplied from Thailand-based drug-trafficking groups as well from others based in Laos, Chalemkiat said.

This case was announced to the press as one among seven recent drug busts that police netted a total of 21 suspects and seized drugs worth Bt440.5 million. The seized drugs comprised 2.9 million methamphetamine pills, 70 kilograms of cannabis tincture, 6.6 kilograms of hashish, 600 kilograms of dried marijuana, three kilograms of crystal meth (“ice”) and six ecstasy pills.

Other interesting busts include the arrest of five male suspects along with one million methamphetamine pills on December 2 in Ang Thong, as they transported the illicit drugs in two pickup trucks from Chiang Rai heading towards Bangkok.

Two Thai male suspects in their 40s were arrested and 780,000 methamphetamine pills seized during a drug delivery on December 1 in Chiang Rai. Another operation saw the arrest of four suspects, and seizure of 599 kilograms of dried marijuana in Sara Buri on December 2.

Availability of raw materials. Oil is presumably higher value than weed, so shipping would then be easier – except oil is a class A drug.

With literally tons of raw material in Canada, I believe it's low overhead plus the Japanese already had a route established - just the motivation of greed and the stupidity of believing they wouldn't get caught. The trouble with doing illegal business in Thailand is that they'll rat on their own mother, let alone foreigners. Bad timing for sure cause they'll certainly make an example of these folks in light of recent announcements.

Aren't the RTP supposed to be relaxing laws on marijuana soon?

I read somewhere that they were thinking about legalizing it. Or was that a dream?

And the cops here got 70kg. With 5,000 Kg having gone already. Would have been a huge bust if they had caught the earlier shipment then, rather than the leftovers.

It makes 0 sense... why in Thailand where it can land you lifetime jail?

You can do it in most EU countries with better climate for that + slap on wrist if found out + no borders vs international shipping.

Damn.. tip of the cap to these 2.

Dumb place to do it tough, they could have gone to morocco, plenty of material there, and if they got caught they would likely of got less than a year, whereas here they could get 15 years.

Both are a win though

i can imagine after the court case it will go into they own stock when legal to sell it.or they own blackmarket

Unbelievable. See so many of these stories. Keep asking the same question: why do it here? Do these people have brains or do they actually want to go to prison?

Oversize bold font reset to normal. Please stop posting in this manner.

If the BiBs want....they can sell the weed and hash and oil to Canada and make some money.  It's legal in Canada now thanks to weed smoking Canadian Prime Minister "Jihadi" Justin Trudeau.  As long as you're 18..(19 in a few provinces) you can legally buy cannabis.  They sell about forty varieties.. most of them very very high in THC levels...... a few lower in THC and higher in CBD.

Here's a chance for the Thai police to make some extra money....

Stage 4, like so many others. I wished there was any truth to that. Cancer cures are few and far between. The press and the internet present every little breakthrough as the miracle cure. Once you get real information things look very different. After years I still have people sending me 100% cures for cancer and all kind of conspiracy theories. Reality is very different from that. Hope you never have to experience the dark world of C.

Have a good day and enjoy every day you are not ill. MS>
