I am a UK Citizen and received a 30 day stamp when I entered Thailand. I am about to collect my new passport this week from the British Embassy and my current stamp permits me to stay in LOS until 3 March.

Do I have to go to immigration to have this stamp transfered to my new passport :o before I depart LOS or can I just show my old passport. As this is not a visa I am not sure of the correct procedure?

Any feedbasck would be appreciated.

You are expected to transfer your current permitted to stay stamp at Immigration after you receive your new passport. Believe others have indeed taken both passport to airport and done there but don't know it that caused a delay or not. I have always done at Immigration.

Forgive me not an answer, but you were able to get a passport renewed through the embassy in Bangkok in less then 3 weeks? I'd been told there were delays owing to 'industrial action' in the UK.

Thanks Lopburi 3. I take it they will just give me the correct form to complete at the counter on arrival at immigration. Is there any fee to transfer?

There is no fee involved but a few photo copies need to be made (if you visit the copy shops across the road they will know what is required). The Embassy is supposed to supply a letter asking immigration to transfer but from reports the UK does not do this - but immigration will take care of it anyhow.

I got a new passport back in October.. had a 30 day stamp in the old one and just showed them both at the airport when I left Bangkok. I believe the passport gets cancelled, but visas etc contained in that passport are still valid. At least mine were/are anyway..

I have done it at the airport twice now. Once in January 2002 and once in September 2006. No problems in both cases. The officer swiped passport one and stamped exit in the new passport, as painless as it can be.

UPDATE

I collected my new passport yesterday from the British Embassy with no problems. It took exactly 10 working days.

I then went to Immigration and had my stamp transferred which took 30 mins from start to finish.

This post is for confirmation incase any one else is concerned about the time frame to receive a new passport.

Cheers

That is real quick. Did they give you a confirmed pick-up date when you applied ?

That's what happened for me. A pick up date 10 work days (=2 weeks) later. Used to be 7 work days, progress I guess.

Yes Krub they give you a date (stamped on form they give to you for collection of new PP).

You can also nominate someone to collect your passport on your behalf but you must provide:

Till Receipt

Letter of Authority
