Had 2 friends recently tell me they received multiple entry 12 month visas from Sav. One for marriage other for family (child). Apparently no money in the bank required but you need to leave Thailand and re enter every 3 months. One guy says its been the same for him for 6 yrs. Hes under 50 and not elligible for a retirement visa.

Is this true? Can this ME visa be obtained at any border entry?

Is it something you get from immigration and extend yearly or simply a one off deal you get at the border?

A multiple entry non-o visa can be applied for at a Thai embassy or consulate not at a border crossing.

The consulate in Savannakhet will issue one based upon marriage without any financial proof. The visa allows unlimited 90 day entries for a year from the date it is issued.

No.

No.

You can get it (ME Non ‘O’ visa) at the Savannahket consulate without any financials. It will allow you to enter Thailand as often as you want for 1 year. Each time you enter you are given a 90 day stay. At the end of any 90 day stay you need to leave/re-enter; or apply for an extension of stay for 60 days or 1 year.

With planning you can stay for nearly 17 months using this visa.

They will definitely issue one based on marriage. They might not issue a multiple entry as a parent, but they would issue a single entry.

Would they issue it based on having a child at Sav Joe? I have a birth certificate and registered legitimacy papers.

Is it something I apply for at the consulate and go pick up next day or done on the spot?

Im currently on an OA visa, extended for having a child (which was a major pain in the a$$). Do I have to wait until this is fully expired or?

How much is the initial visa?

As far as I know they will not do one for being the parent of a Thai. Penang will do one if you can show 400k baht in the bank for proof of income.

The fee is 5000 baht for a multiple entry non-o visa. It is next day service.

If you left the country without a re-entry permit you could get the non-o visa at any time during your current extension of stay.

Thanks mate. Strikes me odd that one of the most legitimate reasons for being here aka having a thai child...is one of the most difficult visas to obtain

I would guess the incentive at some consulates is to marry the mother - though that is just extrapolation on my part based on other policies.   For example, a foreign-man married to a Thai woman must show money to get an extension, while a foreign-woman married to a Thai man does not.  This provides a clue into the conservative aspect of the culture, which may affect these sorts of policies.

Also, if married and have a child together, an extension at immigration offices is generally less trouble than married w/o a child - though family-based extension difficulty, in general, varies by office.

The 1-year ME Visa w/o financials is also available in HCMC and Hanoi Vietnam - but I do not recall anyone reporting that they obtained one based solely on a Thai child - only by marriage.  It might be worth double-checking with them on the possibility of a 1-year Non-O-ME for a Thai child, unless we have a report verifying it is not possible.

Would be interested to know if Saigon would do a visa for a child. Good excuse to go to Saigon once a year [emoji4]
