Hi all,

If someone could walk me through the procedures for marriage the visa etc, from start to finish , in chronological order starting from, I am in the UK, my girlfriend is in Thailand where do I start, how do i start. ( Get Married being number 1 and popping my clogs being the last thing on the list )

I read from different sources that if I was married to a thai lady, to stay in Thailand I would need 400,000 bt and very little else in the way of information.

Specific things I would like to know are, 400,000 in Thai bank, can that stay there or does it have to come out occasionally and then be replenished from UK.

Do I have to have income from outside Thailand coming in and how much, or, can I look for work in Thailand and try to pay my way that way.

If this has been covered before (and I am sure it has) can someone point me in the right direction.

Thanks (btw I plan on getting married in 2008)

Steve

There is no “marriage visa”

Under current rules, 400,000 Baht in the bank does not qualify you for an annual extension based on Marriage to a Thai wife. Evidence of average monthly family income of 40,000 Baht is needed.

This is what you do to get an annual extension of stay based on marriage:

1. Obtain a multiple-entry non-immigrant visa category O from an honorary Thai consulate in the UK (Hull, Birmingham, Liverpool, etc.) With this, you can enter Thailand for an unlimited number of times within one year and on each entry receive permission to stay for 90 days.

2. Fly to Thailand.

3. Get married.

4. Apply at any Immigration office for an annual extension of stay, once you meet the monthly income requirement of 40,000 baht. This can be your income, your wife’s income, or a combination of both.

You will need to prove an income of 40,000 Baht a month, this can be you her or a combination of both. If income is inside Thailand will have to show tax accounts ,if outside Thailand will have to get a document from your Embassy to show this.
