A Couple Of Nights In Bangkok - Where To Stay?

Hi there

Back in LOS for Songkran and doing a 2nd visitor visa for GF in Bangkok.

Neither of us have really spent any time in Bangkok and we thought we should spend a couple of days there to see the sights.

We're off to Koh Chang for a week until Songkran is out of the way and then heading to Bangkok to do the visa application.

We want to see the floating markets, grand palace, patpong and khao san road but I have no idea how close these are to each other and where I should stay?

Any suggestions or advice?

I've been to Koh Chang a few times now but never for Songkran - whats it like during Songkran? I'll be there with my GF and her 2 children (aged 6 and 12) so not bothered about about getting to lots of bars.

Cheers

khaosan rd, the grand palace as well as wat pho, national museum, national gallery, the golden mount and many other attraction are in the bangkok's old town. From here no more than 10 minutes taxi ride (or air con bus 91) to the weekend floating market at taling chan.

stay at phra athit (just by the river)

patpong is not necessarily for kids and females.

Is the sukhumvit area a completely impractical base if one is going to visit the old town on a daily basis?

I think it should be all right. You can just take the Skytrain from anywhere on Skhumvit to the National Stadium staion (or Siam Square station if that's easier) and then take a taki or tuk tuk to the old town. The old town is not that far from those two skytrain staions.

Thats great..thanks for the info.

Question.... is phra athit a hotel or a street.. I couldn't quite tell when I searched it?

I would normally get to bangkok by bus.. Ekomai station. Is it near?

stay at either 'Viengtai' or 'New World Lodge' Hotels.. Both are excellent and ideal if you want to stay in 'rattanakosin island'

Viengtai to khao san rd is a 5 minute walk...

phra athit is a name a road - Banglampu, by the river and the express boats and a walking distance to the major tourists spots.

ekkamai is off sukhumvit - old town/rattanakosin/banglampu are by the river
