Prawit issues orders in bid for safer holidays

Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan on Wednesday ordered security beefed up to keep people safe during the New Year holidays.

Defence Ministry spokesman Maj Gen Kongcheep Tantrawanich said on Wednesday that Prawit, who is also defence minister, had told the intelligence-gathering units of national security agencies to keep a close eye on groups that might pose risks.

In a video conference broadcast from the ministry on Wednesday morning, Prawit also told police and other security services to be vigilant around the clock during the holiday period to prevent sabotage in places where crowds gather, such as transport hubs, tourist attractions and celebration venues.

He wanted them to crack down on all criminal activities and set up checkpoints to search for drugs, war weapons and other illegal items, as well as law violators.

Urging citizens and relevant agencies to help prevent road accidents, Prawit told provincial administrators to facilitate travel, monitor road toll statistics and implement road safety measures.

He directed the Transport Ministry to strictly implement measures to ensure operators of public transport abided by the law and check highways and secondary roads for risky spots and make repairs where needed.

Operators would be asked to keep cargo trucks off the roads during the holidays. Police, soldiers and local administrators would help enforce regulations against speeding and reckless and drunken driving.

Given these orders and the upcoming election I think I will be steering well clear of any places "where crowds gather" over the holiday period.

The main groups of people to pose risks in Thailand are military generals and control freak politicians who like to have mastery over the people and their human rights and freedom of speech.

Is this because of the insight he got in Hawaii?

So that would be the RTP, anyone in the ruling illegal Junta, anyone working for TAT, jet ski scammers, taxi drivers, any Thai driver, motorbike taxi mafia .... errrr ... in fact anyone in Thailand

So in telling his boys to go and check for risks. They dutifully put down their Chang's and left the bar to go and do some work as their boss told them to,  prior to these insightful directives they were just floating around like a rudderless ship.

Whats the point, RTP will do exactly what they have done for years, sit and watch and react when a problem. PROACTIVE is a word they neither understand nor even know how to do.

It will decades for the sidekick to redeem himself if ever.  Waving his hand ordering the inept and incompetent to effective just is not enough. He needs to run into a burning building and save a kitten or something.  Or maybe he can work with Malaysia in condemning the Rohingya being cleansed from Burma.   He is such a sad, pathetic figure.

Do you expect any major change in behaviour?

Monitor road toll statistics .! Last yrs final strike rate averaged out near 500 a week .. That's one hell of a scoreboard they are gonna need to keep pace if they wanna break that total ..

And is that a Christmas cracker lapel badge that D Dawg is sporting ..

I think they're going to need finer nets.

Brilliant, no wonder he is in charge. Who would have thought to keep a close eye on groups that might start trouble. Of course he is probably talking about those groups that would be critical of the current leadership but when the Toad speaks you know you'll need a pitchfork to clean up the results.

Those were the days when they first commandeered office. Just ring up and order a plane and fill it full of flunkies and lackeys and off on a tropical holiday. Expect to see more of it after the "democratic" election.
