I am planning to buy an item from Newegg which delivers to Thailand. I have done a bit of research about the website and a lot of people have said that it's a genuine website for online shopping.

However, has anyone here had any experience with buying products from there and getting shipped to Thailand? The product is a racing wheel controller for PC. The cost of that product in Lazada/Shoppe/JIB is somewhere between THB 14K - 16K, while I am getting it at somewhere around THB 8K (including the shipping cost) from Newegg. The product will be shipping from United States.

Do I have to pay any import tax? If yes, then roughly how much will it be?

I already read some previous conversations in the forums, and came to know of this website to calculate the import tax. http://igtf.customs.go.th/igtf/en/main_frame.jsp

However, I can't really figure out *how* to do that ????

If you can arrange for it to be shipped by USPS there is a good chance you wont get hit with import tax.

 

If it is shipped by any form of courier like DHL Fedex etc you will get hit hard for sure.

 

Also depends on what is stated on the declaration as to value and content, that will dictate what is charged. 

Item+ ins+ shipping × Xpercent +vat

I also found out that they use DHL, FedEx, UPS, USPS, Purolator, Ontrac, Canada Post, AIT and a few others. I am not really sure though which one they will use for this.

Shouldn't it be the amount that I paid? I mean, if someone purchases it for THB 10K and the amount mentioned there is THB 50K, isn't that like ripping off the consumer...

Some people dont always tell the truth (shock) on declarations. Yes,it should be as invoiced.

It will be calculated as stated above.

 

Item cost + shipping cost + ins x Xpercent +vat + service charge (courier)

Its the X percent that tends to "float" depending on who is doing the calculation.

Amazon was the first place I looked at. It's almost the same price, however when I went to checkout, got an error saying that this item cannot be shipped to Thailand, while in the product page it showed that it can, so it was a bit weird...

Obviously, that does not seem comfortable to make an order. Some firms abroad, mainly the Chinese, can put a very low amount of value, and shipping that helps reduce the costs. Not sure if mail order firms in the US do same.

Ins = insurance .

Most expensive items are insured through the carrier and there will be a cost for that.

4-5 years ago I bought from Newegg (used to be Egg Head) in the US but have not had anything shipped here.

Hm, I didn't come across any "Insurance" charges though. Maybe it's covered in the shipping cost?

If not, then that gives me a red alert, since then I would have no idea what the insurance would be and who knows it might end up being the same cost as buying something from here ????

Newegg does have a website for Thailand. You can access that when you first go there as they check IP address and offer you the Thai site.

 

I set up an account with Newegg to order and ship computer parts here. However, when I went to order something from Thailand site they would not accept a credit card from outside of Thailand if shipping to a Thai address.

 

I ended up buying the parts locally. I paid about the same price and saved 18 days expected shipping time.

Yeah it did redirect me to the "Thailand" version (glad it was in English). I also see that it has charged me VAT. Does that mean I don't have to pay VAT when it arrives?

I guess I will go to their customer support and send them an essay of questions.

When that happens I found it is a matter of selecting another seller. The default seller is the cheapest but isn't always international. Just add all sellers to cart and see which stick at checkout.

 

Years ago I used newegg in the US and it was always excellent. Amazon came along and is so good I don't use anything else anymore unless lazada has what I want.

 

No idea on the shipping part, but years ago I bought a camera from Newegg and it had issues- they took care of it quickly and painlessly. 

I trust Newegg as a reputable business.
