General: I've never seen a case of Thais conning Thais - it's always foreigners who are responsible!

What immediately springs to mind is that an officer of the law who should enter EVERY investigation with an open mind cannot do so if he already has a predisposition to assuming that it must be the foreigner. Therefore he should be sacked as he is unfit to hold the position he now does. His comments are the height of ignorance (of overwhelming evidence) and stupidity.

Pol Gen Amphon Buarapporn must be sharing his good office with somebody who is smoking extremely good weed. Maybe he needs to be told, that such statements - on the internet - are read worldwide and might be a nice closing of the Thai year of 2561.
The media will have an absolute field day over this while others wonder, how the gentleman made it to the present rank.

Pathetic - to say the least - but then, 1) who am I to comment and 2) maybe yet another example of fake news!

Truly unbelievable.

No kidding. Possibly the worst translation in history. The original story did not focus on the statement like the TV translator. In the last paragraph of the original story, the policeman asked reporters if they had ever seen an internet romance scheme where a foreigner pretended to be Thai - intimating that he never had seen such a thing. He has investigated many such romance schemes, all of which involve Thais pretending to be foreigners.

Just an other nationalistic idiot, just like the farangs here that believe they are always in the right and Thais are always stupid and dumb.

98% of the time they would be correct in thinking that.

People earn their reputation.

General Amphon.... you for real?????

You have never seen a case of Thais conning Thais, that must rate as 1 of the most stupid remarks of the year.

Not quite... but it's a close second after "Prawits" I borrowed them from a friend) statement..

What we must take into account is that Generals live in ivory towers, not coming out very often to witness the real world. This man clearly delusional and unfit for duty!

I would love to hear the audio , to know exactly how this man phrased this, or if something was lost in translation..he must be allowed to ''respond to his statement''.

And i have yet to meet a Thai that trusts another Thai! ...families included

I agree - my wife locks her doors on her small bar whenever she is away for a few minutes even though her brother is there - she locks him outside.

IMPO... It's a wide spread cultural problem...sterotypical farangs are seen as drunks,  womanizers who can not be trusted...

I know of Thais teaching their children these things...not to be respectful or engage farangs in conversation.

I know,  I know... You have been here for decades and have never heard of such.

I too have been here a long time and have seen it in action.

I thought he was talking about the Chinese.

He said 'foreigners' not 'farang', never heard a Thai call white folk 'foreigners'.

Poppycock! Whilst I accept that the original story did not focus on this statement, it was this statement that made the story of interest. It is a perfectly fair translation of what Sanook said that he said with the caveat that it was not clear that he was referring to romance scams or crime in general.

I did the translation myself and stand by it completely.

Thank you for that clarification...there apparently is a distinction between the words farangs and foreigner...technically speaking.   Having reread the Thai officers comments...I believe he was referring to all foreigners and not just Chinese.
