A Cambodian mother and her pregnant daughter sustained fatal injuries when their motorbike was hit by another as they were making a right turn at an intersection in Chon Buri’s Si Racha district late on Tuesday night.

The women were identified as Xam, 48, and Xiam, 22, who appeared to be about five to six months pregnant. They succumbed to their injuries in hospital.

Their motorcycle was hit by a bike driven by Thirachai Laocharoen, 23, who along with his pillion rider Jirapat Wongpanya, was severely injured.

Witnesses told police they saw the women stop at the intersection, waiting to make a turn, when suddenly they decided to make the turn and were hit by the other motorcycle that was speeding toward them from the opposite side.

Police will interrogate the survivors to determine who should be held responsible for the accident before taking legal actions.

Sad.

It seems to happen often that people misjudge the speed of oncoming traffic, even waiting  some seconds until it is rather late, and then attempting to move. Two up on a bike may struggle to get going.

A U-turn is not mentioned in the OP or the link.

All crossing points in Thailand are a complete lottery, even if controlled by traffic lights, you can never trust what another rider/driver is going to do!

Riding here is a lottery no matter how safely you drive there are plenty of idiots out there who neither know or care about road safety and driving/riding responsibly   :sorry:

Sorry but some people living here should never be allowed on a bike. RIP and all that. 60 dies in accidents daily in this country.
