About 70 per cent of children who run away from home do it voluntarily, Ekalak Lumchomkhae, head of the Mirror Foundation's missing persons and anti-human trafficking information project, told Nation TV.

The largest group of runaways is aged between 11-15 years old and it may be because that period it is a turning point in their lives from childhood to teenager.

They also a develop romantic love bonds with others, said Ekalak, and as they have easier access to social media they could be lured away by someone.

Statistics reported to the Mirror Foundation show there were 423, 408 and 310 missing children in 2016, 2017 and 2018, and 70 per cent of them ran away from homes by themselves, he said.

According to the law, those who lure children aged under 15 years old away from their home can be jailed for three to 15 years and fined between Bt60,000 to Bt300,000.

So does this mean that a 15 yr old can be lured away from their home legally ?

Speaks volumes about family unity. Has Thai Niyom Yangyuan been forgotten already?

Looking at 70% of the families involved I'm not surprised !!

It just means that for older children other laws apply. You read too much into it. Just like sex with an under 15 gets punished harsher as sex with someone 15 or older but under 18.

its total lack of parenting, lets be honest, parents in Thailand rarely do the right thing by their kids and let them do as they please, go out when they please come home when they please, ride bikes and drive cars under age, its limitless. The kids then believe they are entitled to do what they want when they want, maybe if there was better parenting in Thailand we wouldnt see a lot of the crap we do now, they could start by telling their kids they are not number one....
