I am asking for a friend.

He has been in Thailand since May 2017 with Tourist Visas, with a few trips to the UK, Malaysia and Laos.

He currently has a 60 day tourist visa which expired on 10th Janaury, as it was a weekend he will be going to Immigration at Chaengwattana tomorrow, Monday the 14th. He is prepared to pay for 4 days overstay, but is it likely his 30 day extension will be approved?

Why did he not do it on or before the 10th or the 11th (one day of overstay).

He can pay the 2000 baht overstay fine tomorrow and then be allowed to apply for the 30 day extension.

I don't know, he realised on Saturday morning, which was of course too late. I personally wouldn't let my visa expire, but I do feel bad for him.

Probably as long as he pays the overstay fine. Worst case they would fine him 2,000 baht, keep the extension application fee and give him 7 days (from the 11th) to leave the country.

I was talking to a Finnish guy a couple of days ago, he had the same situation as the OP's friend.  He went to Khon Kaen immigration and they charged him 1,000 baht for two days overstay and 1,900 baht for his 30 day extension (dated from the original expiry of stay).  He said the staff were friendly and did not make a 'big deal' of him overstaying for a few days.
