rossigee Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 My Thai wife gave birth to our first son last month here in the UK. We have obtained a UK passport for him, and are awaiting the necessary paperwork from the Thai embassy so that he can return to with us Thailand next week without having to use his UK passport (he would only get a 30-day VOA if he did). When we get back, we will obviously go through the process of getting him his Thai ID card and passport. My wife just asked an interesting question - when we come back to the UK, which do every other year or so, which passport(s) will he use on both legs of the journey? We figured we would have to use his Thai passport to leave Thailand, then his UK one to enter/exit the UK, then his Thai one to re-enter Thailand. Can anyone with any experience confirm/deny this is the way it works? TIA
Maestro Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 To enter and to leave Thailand, use the Thai passport. To leave and to enter the UK, use the UK passport. This is how it works, and how others with dual citizenship do it. -- Maestro The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place. — George Bernard Shaw
Khun ? Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 If I remember correct children under 12, 10 or maybe 8 do not have a limit on stay. It is posted at the airport at immigration point, when I seen it some years ago.
Maestro Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 Children entering on a foreign passport have the same limit as adults, e.g. 30 days for a UK child on a visa-exempt entry, but Immigration does not collect overstay fees from children. Personally, I would nevertheless start my child from the beginning on a Thai passport for entries and exits in Thailand, and any other occasion in Thailand where identification papers are needed. I do not see a particular disadvantage if this is not done, but I would do it. -- Maestro The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place. — George Bernard Shaw
