You are missing the point on this, the teacher had no right what so ever to cut the girls hair.

Face is a MAJOR thing here, and that teacher humiliated the girl in front of other students.

That is a very BIG no no here.

If they paid Thai teachers more than 10,000 baht per month, then maybe they could get some who actually knew enough to fill the class time, instead of spending their time enforcing stupid archaic rules.

I agree about face, but I saw it more as the teacher trying to make face over her class, by humiliating one of the students.

So then all the recuts were so short to match the very low depth of the teachers cut.  So they all made an effort to keep their hair in the accepted manner. 

Thankfully he finishes at the school in 5 weeks. He has no time for any of the teachers who did the cutting. 

I know what I'd be doing with the cutter, and it wouldn't be cutting his hair.

If the rules stated 9 inch and the girl after repeated warnings still hadn't been cut then she should have been expelled until her hair was the allowed length or the rules changed. 

 

Physical assault by 2 teachers shouldn't have happened. The girl filming should have been given a merit for highlighting the draconian practices still being committed in the school.

I had a work colleague (Thai) university educated engineer, who had no clue what the moon was and he had no interest whatsoever in finding out.

Why is it that there are other girls in the video wandering around with hair just as long as the one having her hair cut?????

Actually Thailand never was a third world country. And while it is still "a developing nation" it is in most things a first world country just like Germany.

To dock a student marks for filming this is draconian

If that would have been my daughter the teacher who did this would end up bold and shaved with my oldest razor blade that I use downstairs.

I was just told that for a teacher to be employed as a teacher, they must have a hairdressers certificate as well as a teaching degree, is this true or is someone pulling my leg.... ????

So right, I'm afraid. And here is a good reason why. Wednesday the 16th was Wan khru, right. So all the kids get a day off being taught. Here in Udorn they all get ANOTHER day off because it's Udornthani's birthday with all teachers etc out in traditional dancing parades. As I have said before on other threads, the Thai educational is still heavily bent on teaching traditional culture at the expense of necessary topics for the modern world.

During the video, in the background, you will see at least one student with long hair in a horse's tail. Why is this particular student being singled out for overlength hair? There probably is an ugly underlying reason. To us westerners, the school deserves the social media backlash but Thai officialdom will say that the will of the students must never undermine the school hierarchy or the whole edifice will crumble and turn to chaos.
