A Bangkok pub is likely to be closed after a Sunday morning raid found it unlicensed, open too late and with patrons stocked up and loaded up with illegal drugs.

A team from the Provincial Administration Department and other officials raided the 56 Arena Music Hall on Charoenrat Road in Bang Kho Laem district, Thon Buri, at 2.30am, sending half of the estimated 800 patrons scurrying out the back door when the lights went on.

They detained 114 people on suspicion and all later tested positive for illicit drug use.

The authorities are considering shutting the place down for five years as per National Council for Peace and Order decree 22/2558.

Two hundred small sealed plastic bags of crystal meth, 45 of ketamine and nine of ecstasy were found scattered around the floor in various locations, including in the toilets.

Patrons had to undergo a urine test, resulting in 78 men and 36 women showing signs of taking illegal drugs. Two were under 20, one under 18.

Saengpratheep Komolbutr, inspector-general of the Department of Juvenile Observation and Protection, who led the raid, said complaints had been received about drug use at the pub and late closing times.

The owner, whose name was not released, was charged with operating without a licence, selling alcohol beyond legal hours and to persons under 20, advertising alcohol, allowing entry to persons under 20, and allowing drug use on the premises.

It is if you get money for being negligent ????

Over half of the patrons scurried out the back door?
Not a well organised raid then?
How can a club of this size operate without a licence ever being held or checked... Rhetorical question!

Corruption rules !

Buddhists dont take drugs. Oh wait.....

Wow that place looks awesome!   rather annoyed I didn't know about it sooner.

The only thing I don't get is why it has no dance floor.   Just drinking and eating is ok, but I like to dance as well if there is a good DJ.

How long it was allowed to operate like this, will tell

you a lot about why it was shut down earlier.

Thais dance beside their table.

Thai's are not into dancing.  content to sit and get drunk.  sad.

The unguarded back door is for the HI-SOs..

Here is a business model that works. Unfortunately there is no legal way to cater for a crowd like this - who are basically harming nobody.

Every single one on the gear 5 more plodding along on inactive posts what a fiasco ????

800 kids galloping out the back door at high speed is a stampede. Now that I would have liked to see.

Oh dear..who forgot the monthly brown envelope.............

Do you never see Thai people dancing???

that can only mean you never go out Thai people love dancing but they don't need a dance floor

And please close it down for five years so other pubs can see the need prober license and follow the rules

We can all be thankful that this illegal club had some back doors (fire escapes), and they weren't locked.

Of course, having the Military involved ruled out RTP attendance!!!

to operate such large club without a license, must be partly own by the police or politician in that area.
