WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday said a deal had been reached on legislation that would reopen the U.S. government through Feb. 15.

"I am very proud to announce today that we have reached a deal to end the shutdown and reopen the federal government," Trump said at the White House.

Trump said in the meantime a bipartisan committee of lawmakers would meet to discuss the nation's border security needs.

The government closure was in its 35th day on Friday and was threatening the economy as hundreds of thousands of federal workers missed a second paycheck on Friday.

The U.S. Senate rejected two shutdown-ending bills on Thursday.

Trump had been dug in, insisting on funding for a wall he wants to build on the U.S.-Mexico border, while the Democratic-led House of Representatives opposed the wall.

Democrats in the House had demanded a reopening of the government before any negotiations with Trump and his Republican allies in Congress on border security.

Good thing Trump didn't retreat.

And the good news.

Mexico’s paying for the wall.

(Or rather, American tax payers aren’t).

The news that the wall isn’t happening has yet to filter through to Trump’s base.

They’ve bought the lie Trump was winning his blackmail ploy.

There is now no denying he’s folded.

This will impact Trump’s ratings and of course that of Republicans.

You missed the most important piece. "The Art of the Deal" served up to him by a woman.

Why so many non -American ‘s want this Trumpstain as President , don’t understand...

For Trump supporters (33% of US and about 1% worldwide) this is a great victory. And Roger Stone was an insignificant errand boy in the Trump campaign, and Cohen, etc. etc.,. And, the dizzying revolving door of cabinet members is full of dumb as rocks, lazy people, etc.

Winning!

Trump as Nancy’s boy.

Please, your kind permission to re-use.

Nancy to Donald...."Who's your daddy?"

He finally did something right

I doubt Coulter would be part of any "Trump cave" rescue.

You need to have a good look at trumps foreign policy and how it effects every country.... from economic sanctions thru nuclear brinksmanship..... then factor in his seeming unadvisedly or illadvised irrational and unpredictable behavior.

and whilst the “wall”, might be deemed a domestic issue, even though it will divide a continent... it’s not the building of it that worries non US citizens, or how much it will cost the US taxpayer... it’s the way and means he’s used to get here, that’s worrying

then, throw in 8000 plus lies or untruths.... this trait of dishonesty might not upset you, or other Americans, but the duplicity does effect other nations needing to deal with yours, and the question of trusting the worlds preminent power, is then a hot topic

trump has made America untrustworthy... the planets supposed most powerful man, is untrustworthy... the planet, not americas, so his actions effect us all, not just y’all.

it effects both allies and enemies, yet his unilateral actions which impact us, are done without notification or consultation, which is the height of arrogance.... and should not be tolerated.

hope that helps

There are few obvious reasons why  Nancy Boy caved:

Another one that hasn't been addressed so much is the sick-in of air traffic controllers. It's one thing to inflict misery on working stiffs, quite another to inconvenience the wealthy and powerful.

really disappointing Trump has not been able to carry out the promise the general public voted him in on. hope he will find another way to improve boarder security.

Got some evidence that the "general public" voted him in on this particular issue? In fact, Trump and the Republicans made immigration the central issue in the 2018 midterms. How did that work out for him? And the "general public" did not vote Trump in. He got a majority of electoral votes. That's a very different thing.

Are you referring to killing the Affordable Care Act?

I knew Trump would fold. He could not handle the huge drop in approval numbers, and he was totally taken off guard, that most of America blamed him, and only him for the "Trump wall shutdown". It was his fault on every level. He fabricated a crisis, then got caught with his pants down, when he declared war on the new congress, and the American people. Now, he looks weak, and dumb, all accurate presumptions.

Going up against Pelosi was a real mistake. Pelosi made Trump look naive and stupid. Which he is. He is a terrible negotiator. She is masterful. He is of modest intelligence. She is very sharp.

But aside from insults, he doesn’t really know how to deal with assertive older women, because for his entire life they have existed outside of both his immediate view and his broader imagination. When he talks about “women”, it’s obvious that only a small subsection of them fit into his definition; some might have qualified, but by virtue of challenging him can be written off as bimbos; a few others are witch-like hags who have surrendered their claim to womanhood; and the rest are simply invisible. The women of Trumpworld have a single role, and that is to say “yes”. Trump has long bought and paid for that acquiescence. Now, Pelosi is telling him no, and she has real power and can’t be ignored, replaced or waved away. They aren’t in direct competition (as he was with Clinton and Fiorina), so he is less able to leverage more generalized public sexism to win his battle against her. He’s used to women helping him feel like a big man. Now, here’s a woman who makes him look small and impotent.

Which is why Trump will respond the only way he knows how: with feeble insults and exclamation-point-laden letters. Pelosi played it cool. She knows how the rules work and how the system operates, and she’s no stranger to condescending men who insult her before they vastly underestimate her. Trump, on the other hand, has never had to work directly with a woman like Pelosi, and seems completely perplexed by her behavior, which is so different from that of all the other women in his world. She knows what she’s up against. He can’t seem to tell what species she is. And it usually ends poorly for the man who can’t tell a kitten from a lion.

Hence, a total surrender. Nancy beat his butt.

All he has to do is get Mexico to agree to pay for his wall, after all, that’s what he campaigned for.
