Has anyone here obtained a non o multiple entry visa based on being the parent of a thai child rather than marriage?

Does it have to be obtained in ur home country or can it be obtained in either Thailand or a neighbouring country? (Laos?)

I beleive you need to show 400kthb in the bank? Does it need to be seasoned ie 3 months in the bank before applicatiin or not?

The consulate in Penang will issue a multiple entry non-o visa based upon being the parent of a Thai. You would need to show 400k baht in a bank on the date of application (2 months is not required).

Savannakhet only does them based upon marriage. You can only apply for a one year extension of stay at immigration here in the country.

Spoke to a guy this morning told me he obtained a "dependant" visa at Vientiane a month ago. Was a bit sketchy on the details, his wife handled most of it but the gyst was a 3 months dependant visa, then he says you can extend it for 9 months. Now I'm not sure if he meant after initial 3 months you can extend 9 months one time or you had to go back to Vientiane or Immigration here and extend it 3 more times every three months. Do you know anything about this Joe? I am guessing it is a single entry.

If that was the case and I did something like that could I still leave the country and re enter on a re entry permit obtained before leaving?

If his wife helped get it I suspect was a single entry non-o visa based upon marriage. I think what he meant was a one year extension not 9 months.

Vientiane only issues single entry visas.

You could get a single entry non-o visa and then extend the 90 days from it for 60 days to visit your child. Then go back and get another single entry non-o and repeat the 60 day extension. Many single parents are doing that to stay here.

No was definitely for a child. I know for a fact he's not legally married and he told me all you needed was birth certificate with your name as the father (I have BC and also legitimacy court order) and other relevant documents. I understand where you say extend to visit your child but the initial visa is a "dependant" visa or a marriage visa? I am not married here. What is the actual name of the visa. Non-O single entry dependant?

Firstly Joe could this be obtained at Vientiene or Savannakhet? Sav might be better for me.

What is the cost?

Is it a one day process to obtain?

Are there any negatives to this visa apart from having to leave the country and renew visa every 5 months?

I assume extension done in Thailand IO?

Do you need to show funds in the bank?

Will they let you do this year on year or will they eventually tell you you need to get a more permanent visa?

On a single entry visa can I still leave the country and re enter on a re entry permit without voiding my dependant visa?

I'm now on an OA visa extension based on having a child. Total PITA. I'm guessing if I don't extend my OA and go to this single entry type visa my OA will be voided and should I wish to do a retirement visa etc again I would have to go back to Australia and start again?

Sorry for all the questions mate, you must be busy but this could be exactly what I have been looking for!

A single entry non-o visa based upon being the parent of a Thai.

Both will issue it.

Apply the morning of one day and pickup the next afternoon. The fee is 2000 baht.

The 60 day extension is done at immigration. No financial proof is needed.

People have been doing the single entry and the extension back to back for along time.

You can get a re-entry permit for the 90 day entry or the 60 day extension of it.

I think your OA visa expired long ago. You have extended the entry from it based upon being the parent of a Thai.

You could change the reason for your extension to one based upon retirement without needing to get a new visa.

Thanks mate. You're a champ Joe ????

So I get my 90 day visa, then extend 60 days. On the extension and I want to go back and get another visa....do I have to wait until the last day when the extension expires or I can go and get the new visa say a week before the extensions expires?

I assume if I am leaving Thailand to get a new parental visa and return, I don't need to purchase a 2000 baht re entry permit? Only the entry visa into Laos?

Do immigration charge for the 60 day extensions?

I came here 4 years ago on an OA visa. First 2 years I extended for retirement. Last year I extended based on having a Thai child. So say I now obtain the 3 months Non O parental visa...extend, leave return etc... and do that for a year. Are you saying if I change my mind I can start doing retirement extensions again based on retirement and my original OA visa or I would have to return to Australia and get a new OA visa and start again?

You do not have to wait for the 60 day extension to end since it would end as soon as you left the country.

No need for are-entry permit to leave and get a new visa. The fee for a single re-entry permit is 1000 baht not 2000 baht.

You can change to a retirement extension at the end of your current extension or even one of of the entries from a single entry non-o visa based upon being the parent of a Thai. You do not have to have a OA visa to apply for an extension based upon retirement.

Has anyone on here done the non o single entry visa lately and know documents required?

I had a look at Savkhet and Vientiene websites and details sketchy at best. They sort of show documents required that could pertain to a non o marriage visa or child visa combined.

Obviously I will need my passport copies and child's birth certificate. Do I need any supporting documents from the mother eg: Mothers Thai ID, Tabien Baan, a support letter from her etc?

I actually live with my son and am estranged from her and she lives far away. I could get documents signed by her and a letter if completely necessary but hoping not required.

You will need your child's birth certificate plus a copy and a copy of the their house book registry.

Thanks mate. I have copies of her Thai ID and Tabien Baan he is registered in so no problem.

Obtaining a letter from her may have been difficult. On the consular / embassy website they list documents required for marriage and / or dependant non-o combined.
