It's gotten worse the last couple years largely due to more vehicles and factories on top of burning.  No money for subway cars need to buy subs.

Stop the burning fields around the country and surrounding countries and we solve 50% of this!

As a Airline pilot I see hundreds of fire now everyday around Thailand! The entire country in engulfed with thick pollution that tops out at 8000 ft.

In the USA the farmers used to do the same (70 years ago) but got smart and now plow the fields.

The governments need to buy a fleet of one hundred tractors and plows (PROHIBIT BURNING) and go across the country with the equipment and help the farmers.

 

Easy fix to 70% of this crap air!

 

CLEAN AIR IS A BASIC HUMAN RIGHT! 

 

What in the hell are we doing to ourselves!

Great post. The official Thai tactic when confronted by a seemingly difficult solution is to stick

the head in the sand, the tail in the air and wait for the blast.

This a really difficult decision for non decision makers to make. So we just talk bs.

And wait for 3 more months for the rainy season to wash all the problems away.

It is/was obvious all along that the deadly fumes in cities is diesel/petrol and factory fumes.

But no, we deflect and say it is due to burning incense sticks.

It is obvious that much of the rice/sugar cane burning contributes, but at a less potential cause.

It is also obvious that Indonesia and Cambodia contribute far more burn pollution than Thailand.

That is not a defence of Thai habits. It shows that action is needed at an ASEAN level.

If rice, corn, sugar cane clippings and other organic were composted it would easily solve about 50% of the problem. 

Sure it takes a year, but the benefit of compost is better than fire ash. And promotes worms and so on.

Put a 500 Baht carbon tax per liter on diesel and gas. Use the money to fund cloud seeding to clean the skies. After that bask in the fresh aroma of self righteousness.
